  1. Thanks guys ... I know i bumped into his site a while back ... i recently found him again while searching the e-bay Hong-Kong site. i did a quick search on this site after i posted and saw that people have had good results... especially with custom made hands and redails dials ... i wasn't aware that he made hands ( made to order) to fit eta mov'ts... since his site seems a bit anti-rep ( is this just a front?) . it seemed that he had a lot of pos feedback on here... it would be interesting to hear about your expierience chieftang .
  2. Has anybody heard of Classicwatchparts.com based in HK? some of there aftermarket dials and bezel look OK - their GMT master bakelite insert looks great!- . Has anybody dealt with them b4 are they reputable ? Cheers Rob
  3. Ubi ... you're such a tease ! Whats it gonna take to convince you to get more made and send one my way?!
  4. Thanks for the feedback and advice guys ! well i guess my hasn't been conditioned enough to spot the print flaws on the mbw bez-insert but for my two pence i think it is one of the better rep bez inserts i have seen save for the pearl and its construction. my mbw insert is most definately metal -tinny and quite soft- unlike others i have seen on reps which seem to be more solid. it would be amazing if orginals were more avialable (hell i would settle for just the pearl) - i was looking at the aftermarket ones that ubi had made up and was absolutely drooling... I am quite happy with the MBW 1680 i have and hollow centre link on it ... working on messing about with a folded bracelet but i think i might just stick with the hollow centre link, a t 127 in the mail and i would really love a gen bezel insert ... im thinking about swapping out the date wheel with silver one ... the only problem are those threes but i guess i can live without the flat head threes until i find a soloution... thats all the work i think i would be willing to do myself... the rest of my issues with it are the crown gaurds ,crown, lugholes etc ... but i am enjoying watching this piece come together... its quite rewarding owning and working on one.
  5. I found a NOS bezel and insert for 5513/1680 on ebay in the 270 usd range . is this a fair price ? secondly what are people's experience with MBW inserts I took mine out to remove the pearl ... its seems pretty flimsy it bent out of shape quite easily and it was a real b*tch to reshape it to re-insert it and is still quite uneven ... i have never had this problem before on other vintage sub reps (non-MBWs) ... i am thinking of getting an aftermarket insert but i think the markings on the mbws are more accurate ... anybody have any thoughts on that? Cheers Rob
  6. Hi all, With all the posts i have seen on this site and others regarding MBWs/WM i finally decided to buy a second hand 1680 - should be getting it tomorow- ( by far one of my favorite watches of it's era) i have another 1680 ( of the swiss eta variety) that i am doing a little work on ( when i can grab some free time) . I was wondering if anyone could recomend or point me in the direction of someone who offers mod services either in the UK or the EU - with the price of the watch i can't really bring my self to do some of the work on it lest i screw it up. I'm really looking to get the CGs milled ,the lug holes bored out ,dail aging with lume and possibly getting the crown and tubes replaced with gens. On another note. Does anybody know if there is a place i can get my reps preasure tested in london? Cheers R
  7. im not familiar with all the 'brand' terminology... so im not quite sure how an abay 1680 would have orignally been set up. i take it that the retaining ring wasn't an orignal feature. would the rehaut have to modified to accept that crystal? how would an older abay case compare to say a twg ? thank you both for the pics and for all your replies ... i feel more motivated now pursue my project.. cheers G
  8. hi all, it seems to me taht the majority of modded vintage rolexes on this site are based off mbw/wm. i was just wondering anyone has/ or had modded non-mbw/wm to high standard? as seen on my last post i have a 1680 that i wouldn't mind working on ... but how modifiable is it... is it potentially modifiable to the degree of an mbw ? cheers g
  9. hi everyone, i'm new to this forum i have been lurking around for a couple of days ... and i must say its pretty damn cool. anyway my question(s) i own a eta 1680... i think v. similar or the same to what sean (etaswiss) is selling on his site but is not one of his. its in brand new condition except for i have managed to lose the bez and the ring that it clips onto ( fuzzy pics included) ... (currently sourcing replacements--- the bezel's retaining ring is hard to source) - i would like to replace the crystal w/ a 127(?) gen . would anyone know if a tropic 127 would fit this watch? if no what would be alternatives ?) any help at all would be appricated muchly , RG
