the CWP dials are not bad but kind of diasapointing... if i was going for a 1665 it would be a comex but the MBW dials always discouraged me and i won't even consider shelling out for a gen .(a great white would be cool but ... it hasn't been on the must have list for me) regardless ... your watch is looks amazing

I have to say the Members Trade Area is the bit i miss the most ... its probably the place i go to first intuatively ... For me modded watches are nifty and i can understand the high asking prices. Those projects can get costly and a lot dare i say also emotional investment goes into getting a piece to a particular standard. That being said i miss the whole Trading Area

Someone Please correct me if i am wrong but that doesn't look like a triplock tube ... therefore a triplock would be incorrect for that tube ... ( not neccesarly wrong for 5513 - the earlier subs had a thick twinlock sans three dots --- well sans dots at all...)

Hmmm the marks on the case back look a bit dodgy to me (someone correct me if i am wrong) . Did that bad boy come with a crown... if it didn't the crowns for that tube cost a [censored] load... and the bezel insert looks aftermarket ... is this case advertised to be a Gen replacement ? It will be interesting to see the progress you make with it . Rob

I shot off an e-mail to him a couple days ago just to check how he was doing ... since i hadn't heard from him in a while. i haven't heard anything back yet... i hope he is ok ... does anybody know if he is alright ?

feel what you are saying sherrington i was expecting them to be on metal too and i felt dubious about how they would look under the 127 cyclops's magnification but i was quite impressed- i couldn't see any bleeding which i had expected to see (the print on my mine was pretty crisp) and the grain of the paper wasn't really visable. on the whole i feel like they are quite impressive... and will certainly bring my 1680 a step up in the right direction! Thank you watchmiesters

@ Stepahane I completely agree with you brother ! But in the same respect ... this board has a pretty nifty search facility . I am all for giving Noobs a helpful hand ... and as Cjeffer pointed out ... sometimes you have to break balls to point them in the right direction ( always in a friendly -rwg- natured way of course )

I wouldn't say that with great convitction... i've owned 2 gen 162xxx (fresh from the showroom ) on with a oyster 'smooth' bezel and also a fluted bezel as far as date justs are concerned the penultimate digit on the case reference determines the bezel type ---the option for both [ smooth or fluted]have been there since the word go irrespective of year with the exception of the first run which exclusively ran Jubilee bracelets and fluted bezels . Ken- date justs/ air kings etc are a staple of the rep community let alone the legit horological comunity ... you can't go wrong with the styling of these watches... they are absoloutly timeless

I've always wanted a gold sub ... ( Tom Ford rocks one) the pictures on the dealers sites just never convinced me but this one is looking really good... what is the bevel like on the crystal? ( the crystal is always the point that stears me away from modern subs )

the case on that watch looks a bit too patek-ish for my liking... and as far as patina is concerned i have some vintage watches that date from the 40's that have incredibly clean ( non- ceramic/ non- restored ) dials... obviously super clean dials raise red flags when questioning the amount of work done on an older watch conversly overly patina-ed dials raise red flags aswell... at the end of the day if you like the watch you should grab it ... the odds on someone knowing what the orig looks like ( apart from vintage watch fanatics) is slim to none .

This past couple of months i have stumbled into two places in one in Kensington and the other in Notting Hill ( Portobello Market to be exact) that are overtly selling incredibly crap fake rolexes surprizingly in up market areas! The first place i stumbled into was on Kensington High Street . There is a newish 'General Store' which seems to me to be a bit of an indoor market that sells really cheap clothes , shoes, and mobile phone parts. in the mobile phone stall is a small selection of rolexes and cartiers mostly very garish date justs , a couple two tone subs and fantasy models... i was taken aback ... since i have never seen fake watches being overtly in this manner in the UK ( or in most of the EU for that matter). Anyway ... i left amused ... Only to discover while antique prowling a stall in one of the Portabello Rd's Antique Galleries where a guy was selling a really weak sellection of vintage wrist watches only to be supplemented witha larger selection of very [censored] fake rolexes ... and he was wearing one himself ( with pride) !!!!... it really made my stomach turn ... eaaak.... anyway ... enougth of a rant... hope everyone is having a good week!

i always thought they should be put in the humour section... i think he has gained enough of a reputaion here for his posts to be taken with a grain of salt .
