  1. So I have a V3 (I believe) skyland that just stopped entirely.  I sent it to China with a family member who got it fixed cheap in a shop, but it came back behaving very oddly.

I noticed it gained minutes a day (40 or so).  I tried demagnetizing it (not sure I did that right) and it didn't seem to help.  Then one day it held time just fine all day and overnight... then it went back to being really fast again.

I tried a bunch of things like not screwing down the crown all the way or running the chrono etc but nothing helped.  Then I realized it seemed to keep better time while I was at work at a desk.

So I tested it dial up and over an hour (Against my iphone stopwatch) it kept to within a second.

But crown up or down it gained almost 2 minutes in an hour.

I assume the answer is going to be full service but just wanted to see if anyone has any ideas or suggestions?  At the cost of a servcie of a 7750 it seems I would be better off buying another watch or looking to replace the movement.

    Thanks!

  2. I have always felt that the gen world is largely about bragging rights... sometimes silent bragging, but bragging al the same. A few watches and a few people I can believe really merit a lot of value in their function and appreciation of said fnciton. But most of thje haters I suspect hate becasue they bought luxury watches to join an exclusive club... only aftger paying their entrance fee they look out the window and see next door some schmoe who paid a $5 cover to get into a bar with almost the same quality chairs drinks and food... they feel ripped off but admitting it means admitting they were willing to pay for prestige, not value of product.

Since it's a hard thing to admit to yourself you are shallow, it's far easier to hate on otehrs for making you feel that way and realize you are the one making you feel that way.

  3. I used to feel that way too...I quess it depends on what kind of luck you've had in the past. I purchased a pumpkin UPO from Angus with an swiss ETA 2824-2 and it would only run about 60 minutes at a time. I sent the watch to Zig and heres what he found

    Omega

    servicing automatic 145

    cleaned/oiled/adjusted - timed 3 positions

all movement screws very loose - old version ETA STD 2824-2

movement was dirty - inconsistent oiling - some pivots dry - many flooded with oil

mainspring damaged - significant wear to plating in mainspring barrel - new mainspring installed

    ETA mainspring part 30

    mainspring fitting 10

stem too short - with crown full in stays in date-set mode - extender installed

only 1 end of each spring bars secured to lugs - new bars installed 2

bracelet bar holes don't line up with case lug holes - bracelet wrong for this case - spring bars customized to fit - both pins engage now

DW is scratched in a few spots

existing case clamps too thick-correct thickness clamps installed (3) 6

all old parts will be returned

I had it relumed while it was apart... So I dropped another $400 USD on it to make it run and look like it should have from new. Personally, had I known this going in I could have sold a few of the reps and bought a nice used gen.

    my 2¢ Dave

I seem to recall that swiss ETAs were hit and miss in that they might be actual swiss ETA but they might be old and abused swiss ETA... honestly I have always felt if the chinese movement was reasonably reliable, it's the better option because at least it's almost certainly new.

Sure it might be a little dirtly or not that well put together, but it's almost certainly not ripped out of some old beater watch just to get an ETA...

  4. Thinking about one of these and wondering which way to go... kind if small wrists so thinking skyland... in terms of quality and accuracy is there a big diff between the current ones available? i know there are lume dot placement concerns on the skyland... or is that a thing o the past?

  5. ;) It's a funny thing I'm wondering the same at the moment, trouble is if I sell it I know I'll regret it straight away!

well sell to me then at least you can know you relieved someone elses regret :]

but seriously when you guys say old ss ingy no longer availabe i see them at a few dealers... am i missing something?

  6. I got an Ingy way back when Silix first put one out and eventually sold it off to someone... miss that watch now...

Was thinking of picking up another but been a while since I was in the rep market and wondered if anyone has any suggestions?

Biggest problem for me on the old one was the caseback seemed very sharp along the edges of all the engravings and it would dig into the back of my wrist... dunno if that can be avoided.

    Anyone has suggestions, it's appreciated!

  7. So a friend/coworker of mine is in a money pinch and he is trying to pawn off stuff to get some quick $$$

He has a watch that he wants to unload, not really my thing but if he is offering a good deal I wouldn't be against putting some money into it to help him out as long as I am coming up too.

Story is he found this watch in Tahoe a few years ago in a lake... obviously it's suffered some wear and tear (partly from being in the lake) but other than water damage to the strap looks ok. He had it serviced and it seems to run pretty well (only saw it for a few minutes).

It's got nice blue hands and the date snaps exactly at 12 and the day function is in German.

What would be a reasonable price to offer in the situation (ie he needs cash and understands he needs to take a hit on it's value, essentially he is looking at me like a pawnshop) assuming I get it verified it's all original parts?

    Thanks for any advice!

  8. @ ken sorry I never got back to ya on that, never did do anything about the gap in the caseback as it does appeark the movement itself is sealed pretty well...

@ Richard I didn't look closely at the movement as I am under the impression japanese quartz is about as accurate as swiss is... but they are probably all japanese...

  9. This is basically a longshot gamble, hoping that Iraqs natural resources will give it profitability in the near future, rasing the Dinars value exponentially. It's super low value right now so if the Dinar became worth 1 cent it would still be a HUGE profit.

But then again... if the Lira jumped to 1 cent it would make everyone who owns Lira rich too...

There are a lot of factors and I could see it happening Iraq pulls together and gets some value but I could also very easily see it not happening.

  10. I searched for the link but no go so I figured it hadn't been posted...

BTW somehow I knew pugwash was gonna be involved in this somehow... I was posting it thinking "hmmm... I bet pugwash comes along and blows right by 80 or something" Just keep steeling my thunder Pug! :p
