  1. I used to be agnostic, but I eventually became atheist.

Same here, raised Lutheran then became agnostic and eventually became atheist. I really believe it had mostly to do with my educational progress and growing up (I love math and physics).

The most intelligent thing I have ever read was on an atheist website that said "in this day and age of science and technology anyone who worships god must be mentally ill. You don't believe in fairies or magic so why a supreme being that controls all and performs miracles?" I also think anyone who teaches their children that the earth is 6,000 years old and men lived with dinosaurs, contrary to scientific fact, should be locked up for child abuse. Pure rubbish.

    Welcome to Kansas

Athiesm always seems to involve a little too much wallowing in your own pride and thinking about how smart you are to have it all figured out for my taste. Pride / Hubris is a terrible thing (considered one of the 7 deadly sins)

"I do not feel that I am the product of chance, a speck of dust in the universe, but someone who was expected, prepared, prefigured. In short, a being whom only a Creator could put here; and this idea of a creating hand refers to God." - Jean-Paul Sarte before he died

Well, sounds like JP Sarte did not take into consideration the not so elegant things the human design includes.

It is prideful to say you exist for whatever purpose you choose. Making that purpose helping others is not however, selfish. You are moving to the second point to get away from the first.

So an atheist choosing to further mankind is selfish? Interesting

You have made your purpose your children because you chose to do so (internal). You have no reason to do so other than your own (internal) processes. With athism everything is internal (the individual), with God there is an external factor. I don't believe it is arrogant to point out this difference.

So atheist can not be compassionate? Wow.

All this being said, everyone has the right to believe or not. I grew up in a country where there was no separation of church and state; had to go through religious studies for several years in school. It was very interesting and I experienced religion in an educational setting taught by a priest with two test a semester. I still became an atheist and aced the class every semester.

  2. I'm 5'11 and was in my university basketball team. Back then I could do a standing jump and hang off the 10-foot high ring :thumbsupsmileyanim:

Too bad those days are long gone :( Perhaps my 3-point shot is still there?

Well, with my hight I had no choice but to play basketball. Here is a few shots from last year:

No to bad for an old man I might say.

By the way, Swedish girls are nothing but trouble, I married one. :victory:

  3. I know Angus is making one, but I saw a few nice gens for sale. Why is it that the retail is like 4,000 but the re-sale price is so much lower? Supply/demand issue?

    Cheers.

$4000 seems high, I believe I saw the white dial one at Costco for about $2400. Looks nice, but I see no reason to pay over 2k for this watch.

  4. I just recently bought a PO from another board, and love it. It has been alternating with my Railmaster XXL and my black SMP on a daily basis.

The other day, when I took the PO off it thought I should take a few pictures of these two massive watches together.

The pictures are far from the quality that Pugwash or By-Tor take, but I’m still in the learning process.

  5. Believed or not I found the parts. Vaccumed the floor in the area were I worked on the watch. Here is what I ended up with.

Then I worked the dust with some magnets, and saw some silver on the magnet. Put them right a way in a zip-lock bag.

here is a close look of what was in the bag.

Thank you all for the help and advice,

    Toni

Happy New year and a great 2007 to all.

  6. Well, I spent all night looking for the spring and the other little metal piece on the floor. No luck, I had my strong LED light in one hand and the strongest magnet I could find in the other.

I'll give it one more try with my cleaned out dyson vacuum, maybe I'll get luck this way.

If I can't find the two parts by Monday night, I'll call Ofrei and see if they have the parts.

As I write this, my wife reminds me that she told me not to play with my watch.

  7. flavor flav:

Yes, there is a small hole on the SMP case located under the bezel. The hole is about 2mm. here is a picture of it.

    175964-8456.jpg

I took a look at Ofrei, but have no idea what I'm looking for. My search for bezel parts doesn't bring anything up that looks usable. If you could nudge me in the right direction that would be wonderful.

I thought that this spring I still have was just to keep the bezel attached.

    175964-8457.jpg

Also, you are right one the SMP is an Asian 21, This watch is why I started looking at Reps. My wife would not let me get get the real one. Here are two more pictures.

    175964-8458.jpg

    175964-8459.jpg

The SMP hands are right on and the loom on them is great. The date font might be a little small and the He valve is a little low, but that is minor. I have a question about the band though. On this watch the band feels light, like a Rolex band. How is the original. By the way, the band has pins, not screws.

    Thank you for the help,

    Toni

PS: flavor flav, I have admired the picture of your watches several time, you have a great collections.

  8. Got my new SMP from WBK, and it is a great watch. The loom on the hands is incredible, the crown guard is very nice and the band doesn’t have screws.

    175912-8464.jpg

Now the one thing I wanted to a just is the bezel. The Bezel was about 5 mm off; and I thought I could just follow ByTor’s bezel adjusting guide.

The guide is straight forward and I decided to pop the bezel off the SMP. Once removed the bezel layout was a little different then in ByTor’s guide.

    175912-8465.jpg

    175912-8466.jpg

The teeth on the bezel are actually on the under side and not on the sides like in the guide. So now I’m left with these three parts.

    175912-8467.jpg

I have tried several ways of attaching the bezel again, but none worked out right. The bezel attaches very nice and stays in place, but now I can turn it in either direction without any clicks.

I also tried to place the spring semi outside the bezel hoping it would catch in the hole on the watch; no luck so far.

    175912-8468.jpg

Since nothing has worked, I think I might have lost a part belonging to the bezel?

Any advice is appreciated on how I can fix this, mean while I’ll keep on trying to fix the bezel.

    Toni
