  1. Bought it from "risti from a guy financing his 312.

My first was Abay 111G. Loved it.

Second was a trip to Thailand, sweet 111H, third was from River, which I planned on modding but am too lazy.

Now that I have this and a sweet gen collection, I'm thinking of getting some reps again. I can't afford the next level of gens.

  2. Just got this today. Excuse the q&d iphone pic. A little 40th birthday/ 10 year anniversary present from my wife. I of course sourced and paid for it. Her contribution was giving me permission to do it. ;)

A 111 has always been my grail watch. I've had 3 reps of it but last year I sold all my reps to start collecting gens. TBH, once this went on my wrist, the difference between rep and gen is negligible. I like that I now have one but is it worth 10 times the price even second hand? Definitely not. Little fit and finish things are noticeable probably only to us, but even a slightly modded rep will look pretty damn good next to this.

    Regardless, I'm thrilled.

Reps were my gateway to gens, so these companies shouldn't worry so much about our little hobby.

  3. I check the guys wrist in line behind me at H&M the other day and see he's wearing a Daytona.

I lean over and say, "Nice Daytona."

He responds snootily with the thread title. He's with a woman and he's trying to impress her I guess.

I say, "Yes I know. This model is a Daytona. You have great taste, it's a hard to get, very nice watch."

Now he's beaming a bit and says, "Thanks. It was a gift."

I don't know the tells with Rolex but my guess is rep in this situation.

  4. I have one on my wrist as we speak.

They wear quite small, like a 42mm because the base is wider than the bezel.

It feels great but light because of the Ti. The sweep is on the small dial so it looks very smooth.

I have a complete set in around 85% condition. I have been debating selling it as I've bought too many watches lately. PM me if you'd like to buy it at a good price.

  5. Definitely poor manners, to say the least. But some people, especially after getting burned by a hesitant buyer or 2, just figure that it is best to go with a sure thing (when it is offered without hesitation) than to wait & take a chance on a buyer changing his mind. Not an excuse, just an observation.

This is pretty much it. I have had numerous people commit, say, "consider it sold" etc and never hear from them again. These are long-time, respected members. I had one guy say, I'll take it" so I send him PP info and 6 hours later he responds with "Just a few questions first."

After a while, you sell to the first person who truly commits. You give them a deadline to pay and then you move on.

  6. I'm about to sell the rest of my reps. I sold 7 a couple of months ago and am selling 5 more this week. I'm just deciding what single rep to keep.

I am now collecting gens, but may get a rep or two in the future. I have bought all of them second hand and have a nice collection of interesting and inexpensive pieces.

My gen collection (not including Seiko divers)

    Schaumberg Nauticfish

    Oris Regulateur

    Sinn U1

    Omega SMP

    UBoat Flightdeck

    Breitling Skyland

  7. I would love a gen section here. I don't really mod and I sold off half of my reps and own a bunch of cool, cheap gens. This is my watch group and board, not anywhere else. This is where I get info and spend my time. I would prefer not to have to change boards as my interest shifts. I want to keep one foot in each world and would prefer to do it under one roof. There is no harm in testing the waters. Put it in and see what happens.

  8. I was in Newport Beach last fall and was dying to go into a great watch store but could only stare through the glass because of my rep Bentley. The next morning I went back wearing my gen SMP.

To be blunt, going into an AD wearing a rep is stupid and an insult to every person working and shopping there. You come here to smugly brag about this but they all thought you were a huge loser after you left.

  9. Which dealer did you get it from? Davidson? Wanted to check to see if anyone else was offering the correct cannon pin out of the box.

    /Tim

[add] Nevermind. Just saw from the title that you got it from River. I haven't tried River yet and thought Davidson was the only one offering the correct cannon pin.

Also, as far as I know, all automatics have a flush pin, it's only the hand winds that have it recessed.
