  1. Stupid Question: I just ordered one of these from Eddie as well. He game me a tracking number but I don't know where to use it. DO any of you have the link that this tracking number should work in. I am located in the US if that matters. Thanks guys
  2. Calling Lello, come in Lello.
  3. Im in for the next round!
  4. It seems simple enough to fix. I'm sure in good time some ingenius member or friend of will come up with something.
  5. Well, the IWC pilot chrono seems to be getting some very favorable reviews. I am ready to purchase one myself. After having compared the rep to the Gen at the AD, it is obvious that the date wheel situation is a fairly big flaw. I have little experience with personally modding watches, but am more than happy to pay a professional. That said, do any of you know about another date wheel that looks better that would fit in this watch, or how we could make the request for one to be built. Any thoughts, or help on this topic would be much apprecited. Not only by myself, but also by anybody else with this great watch. Thanks.
  6. King has these. I don't know how accurate they are though. At first glance they don't look too bad, but they are manual wind.
  7. I am really leaning behind the idea that I will not service a watch for the first 4 to 5 years. At that time If I still love the watch I will have it serviced. If I don't I will sell it. I can completely understand that idea that servicing a watch is cheaper than replacing parts, that said, if it's a watch you love, the service cost will be money well spent. All that said, I have purchased more than one watch, that looked like a good idea when I bought it, only to find out that I can't take off the watch I have been wearing for the last 6 months to give it a chance and it goes unworn. This is a great topic guys, thanks for all of your thoughts and feedback.
  8. I guess that answers that... I'll go ahead and upgrade that crown afterall
  9. I have a one 2824-2, and a 6497. The 6497 is the most tempting to me, especially if I stick some good money into mods, but what's to say it won't break after a service. oh the madness
  10. Thanks guys, I guess I am at the point where I have a $320 rep and I am planning to stick in another $200, what's another $100. I will have to give it some thought as it is my understanding that the movements in my watch's seem to be pretty run of the mill movements. This is a tough one. BTW, I do try to change the oil in my car every 10,000 miles (synthetic), but a replacment engine may run me slightly more that a new rep. Thanks for the replies, I look forward to other opinions. I would also love to hear some stories about how long reps have lasted with no service.
  11. Hey guys, I need your help on something. I have purchased a few reps, all with swiss movements, some manual wind some automatic and all have kept great time. I am now at the point where I would like to have some mods done, all cosmetic at this point. Which brings me to my question... What is the point of servicing a movement if it is working properly. It is rather expensive, which is understood considering the movement is taken apart. I am asking this because I have no idea why this should be done, and will have it done if somebody can convince me of it's importance. Would I be better off waiting until the movement quits working properly, or should I have it done as long as i'm already having a relume, crown fix, etc done. (FYI - I considering this on a panerai and omega) Any help or thoughts on this topic would be much appreciated. Cheer, Milwaukee
  12. Great pics. Who did you buy the 172 from? It look great.
  13. Thanks to all of you that have chipped in so far. Looks like I will be spending some time on dpreview.com. Keep your suggestions and opinions coming as I need all the help I can get and this thread has been donig just that.
  14. I should also add that my Pentax Optio is not too hot. I clearly want to set up to the next level... probably a big step considering what I was using.
  15. Thank you to everybody that has added so far. I should have mentioned my intentions for this camera earlier. Not only would I like some great quality close-up's (i.e. watches) I also have begun doing a fair amount of traveling and love to take pics. The camera I have now is a super compact Pentax. A great point was made earlier about the size and weight of the camera. I know I am never going to become a professional and I do not want a 20 pound weight around my neck on vacations so this should help me narrow it down some. Your help so far has been GREAT! Thank you.
  16. I guess that answers that question. Pricegrabber.com it is Thanks Aeroguy
  17. Thanks Pugwash, Based on the quality of your attached pics in your tutorials and your personal watches I will surely take a close look at the Panasonic. Any thoughts on advantages or disadvantages or and SLR? All I know is that they are expensive. Can you tell that I don't know much about cameras.
  18. I am in the market for a new digital camera. It has certainly been brought to my attention after viewing so many great photos on this board that mine is junk. I would like a mid to upper level camera (for what that's worth) but would not like to spend more than $1000 U.S. for it. I have two questions for the group: 1. Any recommendations for a good camera under $1000? 2. The board seems to have a great connection with many in China, Japan, and Korea. For that reason does anybodys know of a way to by a camera more directly than going to my local electronic store and paying a huge markup? Thanks for your help, this need of a new camera is of course all of your fault anyway. Regards
  19. I agree. Check out this pic that was attached. It shows the distortion on the gen.
