  1. I think i misunderstood what you were saying the first time i read it, but ive got it now. Try to avoid manually winding a watch with a cheap automatic movement. I will do, thanks for the advice. I told the dealer about the problems and he suggested i put grease on the rotor bearing. He wasnt particulary helpful. I wont mention who it is because that would be a little unfair. Ive delt with him before and his service is usually great, and his quality control first rate. I guess every now and then one has to slip through the net. Also if i sent this back to him i know he doesnt have a replacement, and i love the watch too much (last night i was dreaming that my life would be better if i sold my car and bought a gen!) I have also noticed how nice people are round here. I couldnt have hoped for a better response. Thank you to everyone that has offered advice. I will definately try to join in a bit more from now on, starting with some photos to show my small collection. The rotor is very loud. Not only can i hear it on my wrist, but it can be heard from the other side of the room! Ive never heard anything like it.
  2. Opened it up (got one of those caseback removal tool thingies), and had a poke around. Cant see anything grating. Although the rotor is noisy it moves nice and freely. Im not confident enough to start removing stuff so i can see why the crown is so noisy. Perhaps i should try grease on the rotor bearing? Whereabouts in London are you Charlie? Would love to meet someone whos into replicas aswell. If i do manage to find a good watch guy ill let you know. Thanks for the advice. The reason i bought an automatic is because i like having a date window on my watches. Especially as id like to wear this one daily. Ive tried watches with no date before and just get frustrated. Im too used to a date complication. Will send you a PM. The reason ive been lurking so long is lack of confidence. I feel im just not knowledgable enough to be able to add anything worth while. I also didnt want to take all the time by asking continual questions without being able to give back abit. Must try harder!
  3. Hi All, Despite having joined up a while ago and lurking for a bit, im new and pretty clueless so if i ask stupid questions then please forgive me. Ive just bought my first panerai. A cheap automatic that i have fallen in love with. I own other reps which i really like, but now i get this whole panerai "thing". Problem is that im already having problems with it. It arrived yesterday and as soon as i tried to manually wind it i knew things werent right. Every turn of the crown sounds like gear is stripping gear. Its painful to listen to, like someone scratching their nails down a blackboard. On top of this the rotor is VERY noisy. Everytime i move my wrist it sounds like a jet engine is starting up. But a horrible rasping jet engine that someone had just emptied a sack of nails into. Im guessing it has the cheap Asian 21j movement in it and i know that it shouldnt be this bad. Does anyone know what the problem may be and what i can do about it? Is it possible to fit a better quality movment for future reliability even? Im based in the UK (london) and went out trying to find a watchmaker that would work on this type of watch. None were interested, so if anyone can recommend someone that will do this sort of work in the UK i would be appreciative. Thanks in advance for any help.
  4. I certainly wouldnt advocate taking your rep into an AD and flashing it about, but i dont think most ADs are as clever as we give them credit for. Ok- its not a watch based analogy but here goes- A while ago i bought a number of ralph lauren polo shirts off the internet. the seller assured me they were real, and i paid about the right money so i assumed they would be. As soon as they came i knew they were fake. I had been wearing the same polos for 10 years and knew that something wasnt right. So i took them into the local ralph lauren store. I told the salesgirl the story and asked if they were real. She had a look and said she didnt know. She called the manager and he studied them. He didnt know. He pulled the genuine article off the shelf and only then did it become obvious. The flaws stood out like a sore thumb, but without the genuine next to it (and a great deal of close inspection), these two professionals that worked with the genuine article everyday didnt have a clue! I know watches are different but it just goes to show how clueless people can be.
  5. I suppose i must be so aclimatised to beautiful women that they dont blind me anymore Was Mark Blundell wearing a Navitimer?
  6. By-tor, you beat me to it! What i thought was most interesting tho was that im sure i saw members of the ferrari crew wearing Panerais. Infact one of the female members stuck out the most because it looked huge on her wrist (and from the quick glance i got she looked quite cute).
  7. I think Newbies can be people with acceptable levels of intelligence aswell! I know for a fact if i was sent a pm with POTR's paypal address, and asked not to put anything to do with Reps or watches in the subject box i wouldnt. And im a Newbie.
  8. fendushi- brilliant effort on those screenshots! I was trying to find something like these but couldnt. Victoria- i think you have got it. Asprey NO 8 Chronograph. So.........where can i get a replica?
  9. fendushi- wrong series. Thats from Ramseys Kitchen Nightmares UK. Im after the watch he wears in Ramseys Kitchen Nightmares USA. But i think you are right about it being a Breitling in the UK series. Here is a screenshot from the USA series. http://www.imdb.com/media/rm384801024/tt0983514
  10. Come on Ladies! a simple google and post wont work here! show me the magic- 1000's of dedicated watchoholics on this forum, someone must know??!!
  11. Not in the current series based in the US currently running on channel 4. This one is all black- face, case and strap. Whatever it is it looks great from what i can see.
  12. I saw in the series set in england he was wearing a breitling. If anyone in the uk fancies having a look its on channel4 now. It looks quite large, all black ceramic or pvd coated, with a black leather strap. Also looks like it is a chronograph of some sort.
  13. Currently watching Ramseys Kitchen Nightmares, the one set in the US. Does anyone have any idea what the watch Gordon Ramsey is wearing? I noticed he has been wearing it for the last few episodes, if not the entire series.
  14. Ok guys, im sorry!! It was a very stupid question and i apologise for wasting your time. Now i have actually bothered to download 2 pictures of the different versions and compare them side by side. The face on the quartz is MILES off. Dial spacing is awful and actually completely changes the look of the face. Real shame. I still really want one, especially after seeing it in blood diamond. How are people with the 7750 version finding reliability?
  15. Hi All, Im afraid im pretty new here as well as knowing nothing about breitling replicas. So please be gentle with me. Ive always wanted a chrono avenger. I dont know why, i suppose all my other watches are safe and small, and i fancy something a bit 'in yer face' for a change. Ive seen a chrono avenger quartz for sale and was wondering if it looked any good. i fancy a reliable quartz for a change, and also id be much happier with a quartz chrono, as apposed to worrying about 7750 problems. Does anyone have any experience of this watch? is it at all accurate (apart from it being a quartz)? Ill post a link to the one im looking at (hope this isnt against the rules). http://www.trustytime88.com/index.php?main...products_id=277
