  1. Nope, no good. She notices EVERYTHING! The worst thing is that it isnt a matter of saving up. She just wants me to thin out what I already have! Too many toys. But on the brightside, she decided she loves loves loves Panerai. So maybe some headway is being made.
  2. Words with more truth were never spoken, Donerix! Here is one more for ya.
  3. @chronoluvvv As far as turning in my man card.. She has been super understanding of all my hobbies. She goes with me to Gun shows and is a good sport about it. She doesnt b1tch tooo much when I over fill the listening room and speakers spill into the living areas And will even pose with some of it. So, if I have to part with one of the two of these I have to keep her happy, I will do it happily. But I STILL want the best bang for my buck and cant decide which way to go!
  4. I think I just vomited in my mouth a little. Sratch that...........a LOT!
  5. Quick phone pic of her. I am not sure, but I THINK I should probably hang on to this one.
  6. I have to vent!!!!!! So now I find myself in love with watches again. But I am the type to only own and wear one or two at a time. The wife sees this new love and puts her beautiful foot down! And I mean where I KNOW she isn't playing about cutting off my "priviliges to the kingdom" serious type of putting her foot down. I can only buy new watches if I sell or trade some of my audio equipment for them. This sounds fair to me (at first)...... I select a nice piece of vintage McIntosh gear to part with. I have two of them and it worth $1500-$1800 (depending on tube set) which is perfect to buy a couple of pretty nice rep watches or build a pretty darn good franken right? Ok, cool. But then I dont want to sell it off and not have an idea as to what I want to build! So I start trying to decide (and the "FUN" now begins) -How about a vintage Daytona? = I am going to have to use fleabay to find a V72 and then buy a case from DW and a dial from Yuki and finally try and make everything fit. In the end I have a stunning watch that I am going to be afraid to use as a beater due to the plastic crystal and probably older movement. Hmmm, back buner for now I guess. But this is such favorite watch and one I have lusted after for a long time. -Oooo. What about a newer Daytona? = Lets see here, the seconds at 6 version is as reliable as me ex-wife (it has a tendancy to explode just like she did). And the seconds at 9 would be MUCH better! YAY! Oh wait, this project would kick my budget in the balls more than a couple of time just buying an El Primero movment sooooo.. scratch that idea no matter how spectacular this watch would be to own. -I have a new favorite watch these days = Alrighty, so lets build a swiss ETA 7753 Panerai 196 or even better, a 188! Easy right? Wrong. The new ones have a bad case or this dealers case is ok but the date is wrong and the cg sucks or yada yada. So I need one of the first versions of these released all those years ago! Wrong hands and wrong datewheel. But, I can live with that (hopefully), that is IF I can even FIND some one selling one. This is a definite maybe since I love the watch and maybe have enough left over to buy a yachmaster. -Wait! I CANT forget the all time greatest replica grail, the Submariner. MY all time most bestest favoritest watch. Okaaaay, welllll, Watchmaker9 no longer exist so the two tone is not going to happen for sure. Wait, Watchmaker9 no longer exist so that means the Taiwans best is all that is available for all stainless too. This is available through BK and the cheapest option so far. And I can wear it everyday without worry. Perfect! I call to my wife "Honey I think I am going to buy a submariner with the money I get from my sale. Then I can use the left over funds to start a project watch!" To which she replies "Wait...you're selling it and not trading? Well that is different! You get to buy ONE watch and then any left over funds goes to my redoing the baby's room! I decided I didnt like the furniture we bought. And I am going to take it back and replace it with that MUCH prettier and MUCH more expensive furniture set we looked at." See? Head explosion in 5...4...3...2.........
  7. I Just picked up a pair of Etymotic HF5. I will let you know how they sound in the long run. But off the bat, i can tell you that they would be HATED by some one who likes hip hop. I have a pair of Dr Dre Beats (I use them for working out because the cord doesnt tangle) and these things will blow your eardrums but seem to be how most of the in ear's I have listened to sound. The HF5 are a nice departure from the mind blowing bass...so far.
  8. I am pretty capable at servicing my own movements or have access to family who is most certainly capable at repair. I do shudder to think what they will think of helping me with an asian 7750 knock off movment. If I was to spend the money on replacing a a7750 with a swiss 7750, I might as well pony up the extra funds for a genuine V23. But then again, having an A775 that is serviced and reliable takes away any stress of damaging a watch with many expensive parts in and on it. Ahhh..decisions!
  9. I have to say honestly that I really wouldn't care to try and pass it off as a gen. The vast, vast majority of people would just see a Rolex...period. If they knew enough about watches to know the specific model no. then odds are they will know enough to be able to spot it as a fake. I LOVE the vintage style of these particular watches as well as vintage style mechanical and electronic items in general. This watch just sort of suits me and my particular tastes. That being said, I would like a nice balance of accuracy in looks and over all reliability. I know a good balance of both is possible (at a price I'm sure) by using genuine v23 or 72 movments. And since my fiance is forcing me to sell some of my vintage audio equipment to fund my newfound watch desires, I want to make sure and get/build exactly what I want. So basically I am trying to decide if I want to put my funds unto a BK sub for daily use and build an accurate but possibly fragile vintage daytona. Or, invest all of my funds into the vintage daytona and eventually upgrade it to as many gen parts as possible. Also, I figure the sale of the MX should put me at around a$ 1500 budget to build it initially. I am not sure how much this figures into my question but I am sure it does alot.
  10. In fact, my fiance officially put her foot down today! I ran out of room and had to start stacking in the living. I was told to start selling or trading pieces of my collection. And I think she is serious enough to "cut me off" from the lovin, if you know what I mean.. (See my quick and dirty phone pic? Do you think she is right and I have an addiction to vintage speakers?
  11. I am moving out the AR's in favor of the B&W 808's for tonights listening session. The only problem here is that I dont generally like to run my MC275 on the DOOMUNGOUS 808's. I need more power so I generally move in my GP Isabella (solid state) amplifier.
  12. Does this mean the plain old non roller crown guard cases are going to slowly not be manufactured by the rep makers anymore?
  13. Does this mean the V23 movement would fit this dial?
  14. And if you were going to use one as a beater.....which movement would you want. Factor in that I would perform a full service and mod the movement as needed so if your first choice is a 7750 over the seagull then no problem.
  15. Just curious as I am in the market for a new set of in ears. Have you tried them on a headphone amp of any type? Or are you using an ipod? I LOVE the ipod combined with the wadia dock as a source for for my two channel system. But Im still am supremely happy with my old Cowon D2 for headphone duty. The D2 is a bit more poweful than an iPod so this prompted my question. And for you "older" guys: A large portion of my main system is vintage and consists of McIntosh MC275 amp with a McIntosh MX110-Z preamplifier singing through a set of AR 2ax speakers. All have been fully refurbished and updated through and through. Modern source with vintage amplification is HARD to beat.
