  1. Alternatively, you could go here and get a good set of decent tools. http://watchbitz.com.au/shop/index.php?_a=viewProd&productId=259 Sure, they cost more than $5 but they're not junk and they come from an honest supplier who also happens to be a member here. Yes, I do have that particular kit and it's good stuff.
  2. Dental floss did the job. Bezel much firmer and doesn't spin round at the slightest touch.
  3. I am also looking for one of these. I found a very cheap one with false chrono here: http://www.1-pc8838.com/omsp10012-perpetual-calender-black-dial-p-845.html I'm not interested in this one but it's the closest I've found so far.
  4. Sounds easy enough, I'll give it a go. Thanks.
  5. Strange thing is, one clicks, the other doesn't. I may open it up and see if I can see what's going on in there. Maybe I can't fix/change anything but it will be interesting anyway.
  6. OK folks, false alarm, it was my fault. I think this is what happened. Because the crown is a little dicky I possibly didn't get it fasted right before I took the watch off for the night. In taking it off I may have bumped the time and not noticed it. When I woke up I saw it was five minutes out and jumped to conclusions. It has been going for 24 hours now and the time seems pretty much right on. The other faults, dodgy feeling buttons, dicky crown and loose bezel are annoying but not enough to send it back. Since it was just a cheapy I'm going to keep it to practice my watch fixing skills on. Well, develop some watch fixing skills. If I bugger it completely, no big deal and maybe it will be good for some spare parts or something. On the up side, it has let me see if I like this particular watch, which I do. A friend is going over that way soon and he will personally pick out a good one for me.
  7. Somebody, somewhere wrote an interesting post describing how they fixed a loose Navitimer bezel using dental floss or something like that. I'll be damned if I can find it now. If anyone can point me to it I'd appreciate it. I have a loose bezel on my Skyland Avenger and I'd like to try this fix to see how it goes.
  8. I think personal preference comes in here too. I have both, I like them both but, everything else being equal, I'd choose the Navitimer. Why? I like math and the circular slide rule appeals to me. It was designed as a flight computer for pilots. I'm a pilot. So, while the Avenger might be a more accurate rep, personal preference makes me choose the Navitimer. Having said all that, I don't think you'll be disappointed with the Skyland Avenger.
  9. I may have been wrong with the time thing. I set it nine hours ago and, so far, it's pretty much on time. I suspect that, because of the dodgy crown I may have bumped it somewhere and it moved the time. I'll see how it's going tomorrow.
  10. Just received my fourth rep., a black Skyland Avenger. I like the watch but ..... I really can't complain, it was a cheap one and I didn't have high expectations but still .... It looks reasonably OK at first glance and probably nothing too obviously wrong with it to the average person but it has some annoying "features". The bezel works more or less as it should but it is loose. I recall reading a thread about somebody who fixed a Navitimer bezel with some dental floss, must try and find that again. The crown is very dicky to use for adjusting time and date. It works, but feels loose and requires a bit of fiddling to get it locked and unlocked properly. I'm suspecting stripped threads or something like that. The stopwatch buttons work but just don't feel right. The stop/start one doesn't click when you press it, it sort of just needs a bit of pressure. The reset does click but it feels sort of "gritty". Most annoyingly it looks like it loses about 5 minutes in 12 hours. Yes, I could send it back but I'm not going to, not really worth the shipping charges. Instead, this is my plan. I'm going to use this one to practice on with my fancy toolkit I recently got. Maybe I can fix something, maybe I'll bugger it completely. Don't really want to wear it the way it is so it can be my practice test bed. Also, now that I have seen, more or less, what it is like, as far as looks and size and so on go, I know that I like the watch so when a friend of mine goes over that way soon he can have a look at a few and pick one that seems in better condition. All part of the fun of reps.
  11. Great, I've got my brand new, super fancy watch repair tool set here, this might be my chance to use some of the fancy looking gadgets in it.
  12. Bugger! Not to worry, maybe I can get in there and superglue it back together or something or, at the very least, get the broken bits out so the rest works. Amazingly it keeps almost perfect time.
  13. Too late, already played with it. It functions but is fairly loose and the slightest touch on the winder moves it around. I may see if I can find some way of tightening it up one day, perhaps after my new one arrives.
