  1. Just received this today. It's pretty different from everything else I have. Angus offered to replace my problematic 111 but since I got a gen, I thought I'd give this a shot instead. It instantly makes me feel 10 years older...not sure if it'll grow on me or if I'll just put it up for sale. What do you guys think?

  2. Yeah, I was expecting more of a bluish glow from the gen...then I noticed it sitting next to the 217 in my watchbox at around 4 in the morning looking exactly the same so I decided to try a more controlled comparison. Who knows...they could very well change in mid-run too since there are variances within the J series in the crown guard as well.

  3. I did a search and couldn't find a thread comparing the two so I thought I'd give it a shot. I only have a P&S camera so I don't have manual control of exposure time. The comparison will just be for colour and how long it lasts, not absolute brightness.

    Here are the candidates.

Gen 111j. (I messed up the white balance in this pic)

Of course, it was a pretty quick decision to use this to do the timing for this test.

    lumetimer.jpg

Immediately after the lights are out.

    lume1min.jpg

    1 minute elapsed.

    lume10min.jpg

    2 minutes elapsed.

    lume20min.jpg

    10 minutes elapsed.

    lume30min.jpg

30 minutes elapsed. At this point, the camera can barely see a thing but there's still no problem picking it up with the naked eye. It stays at this brightness for hours.

Judging from the colour and how long the lume lasts, it seems that OP uses regular C3 lume and there's no need for any fancy mixing of pigments

Edit: woops, made a mistake with my image labelling. Corrected.

  4. I just tried on gen Grahams for my first time yesterday. Wow...I didn't like them in pics before, but the swordfish is pretty sweet on the wrist. The shared running secs/hour subdial is cool! Was thinking about the rep after that, but no dAR would be disappointing, and I doubt it can be done aftermarket with the weird "biclops" setup.
