  1. I feel so not worthy by now, but here's (so far, at least) the only gen in the household worth mentioning, a 90's Cartier "Must de Tank" (vermeil, ie. goldplated, not solid gold) fitted with a budget croc grain strap that doesn't fit the buckle very well. I'm not even much of a photographer, either.... I got it on eBay w/o documentation or papers, but it's gen alright. I'm saving it for my girlfriend for a nice occasion, maybe christmas, but she recently applied for a new position in her career, so if she gets it it might be the best occasion. Hope you like it, I haven't seen a single Cartier Tank on the forum so far, rep or gen.
  2. My girlfriend would love it.... just sayin'.
  3. I respectfully beg to differ, as it does absolutely nothing for my self-esteem...
  4. Jimbo, as one newbie to another, at this point you won't get a better response to your questions, I'm afraid. I've been a member here for just a few days and I have already learned more about reps just by reading up on the threads than I possibly could've imagined. There are more than a million total posts on this forum and counting (no [censored], there is, actually!) - how many of them have you read? For instance, have you read this one? http://www.rwg.cc/topic/85981-hey-noobor-not-so-noobread-this-now/ The worst thing you can do is sit and wait for someone to give you the answer. Do a little homework yourself, then return and ask some specific questions that show people you have actually made an effort, and you'll see what this forum is really capable of, I promise. Good luck in your search!
  5. Gawd, that is nice, although I personally prefer the look of RobbieG's DJ. But impressive work, mate!
  6. Guess you're right. Even Michelle seems to have put the Cartier Tank Francaise in the drawer for now. Shame, looked good on her.
  7. Thanks guys. For the record I wasn't planning on lying, rather "not telling" - "not telling" and "lying" are not the same in my book :-) So it was more a question of, should I tell her out right, or should I tell her if she asks. But I'm sure you're right, why not tell her? Mike, I'm glad to hear about Andrew. I chose him because of the rave reviews and his enormous selection. I could've gotten a better price at some of the others, but I assume that price and quality go together when it comes to reps as well, and so far he has been great!
  8. So... not much more than a day after registering I have already placed my first order on a rep - an SS Lady DJ from Andrew. What the F, guys, are you trying to ruin me??! Must say I'm already impressed with him! A huge selection of ladies models, and exceptional communication and service. I actually ordered the wrong size, but after the order had been placed I emailed him and asked if I could change it, which was no problem at all. Can't wait to reveive it now! It's going to replace my girlfriends DJ homage from Croton. Already thinking of doing the same as for her Daytona homage from Invicta! I'm curious to know... if you have bought a rep for someone other, like your partner, do you always inform them that it is infact a rep? My girlfriend wouldn't have the slightest clue If I didn't!
  9. I'm just wondering, should this model have the laser-logo in the crystal?
  10. The "thing" in ladies watches right now is definitely oversize. Michael Kors in particular, Guess, Kyboe, TW Steel, J12 and all the homages, ToyWatch, Triwa and what have you. Hell, I even reckon more women buy Daytona's than men these days! I'm sure it will wear off at some point, but like "mastrmindalliance" said, it's a pretty dieharded trend. I guess it depends on the type (and likely age, too) of the individual. My experience is, the younger, the bigger. Exceptions occur of course. My 27-year old girlfriend has a small Rolex Perpetual-style Croton she use for work, and an Invicta Speedway Daytona homage for off-work use. She likes both. I've bought a Cartier Tank (genuine) for her which probably will be her dress watch. Seems obvious, but why not ask her what she likes. Go shopping with her, bring her to a watch dealer and take note of the watches that interest her.
  11. So, it was a helluva welcome I got earlier - thanks for that, guys! Now, here's my first real post, and question. Short version: does anyone has a good link for aftermarket (or even rep) straps for a Cartier Tank watch with deployant buckle?? Now, the long version: I have bought a nice gen. Tank for my girlfriend, which I'm planning to be a Christmas present. It is second hand, but overall in very nice condition... except for the crocodile strap. So for now I have replaced it with a budget croc grain strap, but I'd really like to use the deployant buckle the watch came with. Genuine Cartier straps are ridiculously expensive, so I'm shopping for the best deal on an aftermarket strap for the buckle. I've been all over eBay and web (I think!), and the ones I've found are either too flimsy or too expensive ... or simply bone-ass ugly! I have also learned that while it's quite easy to find reasonably priced straps for the Santos and Roadsters, the Tank is a different story! Quite odd, actually, since a Tank deployant strap is basically a thin regular strap without a tang buckle (and the cutout), without holes and without the two small bands that hold the other strap. In my opinion it should be the easiest and cheapest aftermarket strap in the world to produce! I've found some nice ones from brands like RIOS and Morellato, but they cost about the same as the Cartiers on the Bay (close to $200, which I find pret-ty steep for a strap alone!). I've thought about custom made, but most strap makers I've found seem to be focused on PAM-straps, and charge about the same for at strap. Correct me if I'm wrong So, if anyone have a good tip on nice straps that fit a Cartier dep. buckle, preferably genuine croc or aligator, aftermarket or replica, in the sub-$100 range, please let me know! Thanks!
  12. LOL!! You guys already crack me up! I'm sure I'll like it here!!!
  13. Just wanted to pop in and say hi, just registered and can't wait to dive in on all the info here! I'm expecting to learn a lot!
