  1. Looks great if you're diving and realise you've forgotten your rock hammer.

Either that or you take it off and drop it and you'll pop back upto the surface in double quick time due to the weight loss (but watch it doesn't hit a whale on the head whilst it's falling - it'll kill the whale :) )

  2. I once had a quarts digital watch.

After pulling to bits out of curiosity and putting it back together, the numbers were like an alien alphabet, they weren't numbers at all.

Rather than dismantle it and try to fix it, I could still see that the second digits were changing once a second, and the minutes once a minute, so knew it was just the digits garbled.

So I worked out what garbled number meant really, and once I knew that I could read the time, so I kept it and wore it for years.

I could tell the time as fast as reading a normal digital watch, it was fun when someone asked me for the time and I showed it to them :)

  3. This is still on shame.

The wheels of justice are very slow.

But they're also very big, very heavy, and there's sod all you can do to stop them.

And if you try to duck out of their way, someone wearing a balaclava will kick you in the goolies and leave you tied up in the path of the wheels of justice :)

  4. A quartz movement will need to power the right way around. Unless it's a fred flinstone quartz.

I'd let it run for 10 mins and then take the battery out and put it back in again. May need to do that a few times.

Alternatively take battery out, do the slap in your palm thing, and put battery back in.

  5. I've used Chrono24 to buy my Laco from a German dealer.

    They're good.

It lists the time each dealer joined Chrono24, and there's also a VIP dealer status, and chrono24 also request feedback about the transaction and the goods for every one sold, I got one asking for details about the Laco I bought.

Those dealers in Italy are where I plan to get my gen BB (if i get one), when I get mine I'll fly down to Turin to pick it up and have a long weekend break :)

Just use a trusted dealer there and you should be fine.

  6. The problem Nanuq has mentioned has arisen a few times now that I can think of.

As there are a number of user "levels", it should be trivial to add another user level, "suspended", that allows the user to post in one forum, a Suspended Members forum, only, and they can also respond to PMs, but not initiate any new PM conversations.

Plus the user is not allowed to edit their profile in any way, or delete it.

Admin or a mod can then change the users sig to say they have bed suspended and to see 'this' post for more information.

Stops them posting more sale or wanted posts, stops them doing any underhand sales, stops them starting PM convos to sell stuff but allows them to respond to any PM convos in question and to respond to the thread(s) in 'Suspended' forum about them.

  7. To expand on the Important Information in the first post, I want to make it crystal clear that you must ONLY buy stuff from dealers that belong to forums that you are a member of. If you ignore this rule, the mods here (and anywhere else) will not help you if a problem!

To help explain this, here's an example.

Imagine a new member, they are only a member on here, RWG.

They see this tool and have a play with it, seeing what dealers exist on other forums. They follow a link to "JoeBloggsExampleCompany" and decide to order a watch. What they forgot is that this dealer is ONLY a TD on (for example) RWI.

They have a problem with the order.

He can't ask the mods here for help, the dealer is not a TD here.

He can't ask RWIs mods for help, he's not a member there, and even if he joins, he was not a member at the time he ordered the watch.

He's screwed! He's completely on his own trying to sort the problem out.

So, please beware and always remember this when looking at dealers.

  8. UPDATED VERSION : NOW WITH INSTALLER AND WILL WORK ON WINDOWS XP, Vista, 7 and 8, 32 or 64 bit.

    Hi guys,

I have developed a little tool that allows you to find out all the information (that I have been able to gather) for any TD that is on any of the 4 rep forums, RWG, RWG.bz, RG and RWI. (it includes options for WUS and TZ-UK but I haven't entered anything for them)

It allows you to select which forum you want to see the trusted dealers for, and also allows you to narrow the choice down to watch sellers, strap sellers, part sellers, other items sellers, and repair / maintenance people.

The Watch and Strap sections are complete, but the other sections I'm sure there are a lot more TDs / members out there that provide these services - if you are one such person, please PM me to be included.

If anyone wants to redistribute this on any of the other REP forums, feel free to do so.

DO NOT TRY TO DISTRIBUTE IT ON ANY GEN FORUMS!!!

    IMPORTANT INFORMATION

PLEASE NOTE: IF YOU BUY FROM A DEALER WHO IS NOT A TD ON THE FORUMS YOU ARE A MEMBER OF, YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN IF ANY PROBLEMS HAPPEN!

Please read my next post, it explains this in more detail.

    How To Use

This is what the main page looks like:-

    post-50255-0-22395700-1391728322_thumb.j

It is as simple as it looks!

If you want to narrow your search, use the check boxes to select what you want.

    Click "View".

A new window will appear with all the data found.

Any links into the forums are clickable.

Any links to dealer websites that have been verified are clickable.

Any links to dealer websites that have NOT been verified are NOT clickable. If you want to use these, first go to that dealers forum page and double check the website address is correct and then cut and paste the website link into a browsers address bar.

(And if the link provided is correct, if you want to you could send me a PM letting me know so I can change it to Verified status!)

You can download an installer for the program from here:-

    http://rapidshare.com/share/B6C0BC178FF1E15B8612D7EF0BC0E91C

It requires .NET 3.5 SP1 to run. This is part of Windows 7, so if you are using Windows 7 or Windows 8 it is already there. For those Windows XP or Vista users, when you run the installer, if it detects that .NET 3.5 SP1 is not on your PC it will ask if you want to download and install it, if you say yes it will go away and do that for you, and then continue with the installation.

The actual program itself is tiny but I've had to wrap it in an installer to guarantee it will install correctly on anyones Windows PC.

    Any problems, please PM me.

    Richard

Mods : If this contravenes any rules please whip the rapidshare link out / delete the post and PM me with a slapped wrist, and if so, I apologies in advance!

  9. Ezio I would really find a new "watchsmith" if I were you.

Just the simple fact that the watch case arrived in perfectly good order means that the movement cannot be "crocked" or broken beyond economic repair.

If the movement was completely wasted the case would be smashed up too, unless someone in the post office opened the parcel, dismantled the watch, kicked the movement around a bit and then put it all back together!!!

At a guess your watchsmith just cannot be bothered to fix a cheap Asian movement and wants to "up sell" you for a few hundred euros to put in a new gen ETA movement, which just isn't worth it for a mid priced rep.

There's a few very good watchsmiths in the EU, and they'll happily do a movement swap for a good price, and it looks like you're already sorted for a replacement movement. It'll be up and running in no time! :)

  10. Word! :)

Lets swap the Aviator and the AP for a couple of weeks, I think you've got virtually the same sized wrist as me so we shouldn't have to adjust bracelets I think? Did that UPO fit you OK? That was sized for me. I do have a spare link for the Aviator that I'll send anyway.

  11. Angus knew about the pearl and is sending out a replacement pearl to those of us that were on the pre-order.

To me there's hardly any difference between this one and the gen, I've seen far FAR worse on supposedly "super reps"!

When my new pearl comes I'll replace it (may as well) and sort out the play in the bezel, and also put it back aligned correctly (it's a fraction off now).

All the ones bought now should have the new, improved pearl in, so it'll be appearing a long time before any V2 comes out :)

  12. I've seen lots of pictures of these, members watches and on TD sites and most of the time I can see what appear to be faults in the cases - little parts where the carbon hasn't flowed into, small holes or gaps, mostly right near the lugs (which'd make sense - the furthest parts).

This one looks perfect, and the sheen really makes it pop, especially on todays wristies thread.

I shall have to keep an eye on your For Sale threads Mr AJ, if a Thames Valley GTG doesn't happen before hand! :)

  13. Gunnelof, what is the problem?

I have received mine and it is all good, I love it.

I have read that a few people have had one of the little ceramic balls in the clasp fall out, and I think one person has reported a dead movement.

Out of the 400 or more shipped I don't think that's too bad a failure rate for a rep, especially from a new factory.

  14. Sorry for pulling your leg but couldn't help it :)

Some of our trusted dealers only sell the more common reps and don't sell many or any ladies watches, there are a few that do sell a selection.

Best thing to do is have a look at the dealers websites (search for a post by me that includes the links to the dealers sites) and choose a few that you like the looks of, then go to an AD and try them on to choose maybe a lite of 3 watches that she really likes, and then you can surprise her out of the three.

  15. Wow, a nice day today guys!

Some really lovely, and unusual watches today.

Speedmaster for me today, plus a tiny little Smiths movement recased into an equally tiny case, finshed with a nice soft strap, all very nicely done by AstonJenks and his workhorse jeweller! I know the Smiths looks like a "Why would you bother?" watch, but it is the one thing I've got to remind me of my dads parents, and has a lot of memories attached to it :)
