  1. Suggestions that pop up:-

    Sinn U-Boat

    IWC Big Pilot

    47mm Pams (or bigger)

And I know you're not looking for a watch with a classic look, but some of the classic looks do have that "big face" simplicity, the face looks bigger as they haven't got thick bezels, oversized crowns or guards, etc.

  2. I did a lot of reading on Watch-u-Seek and found that these three EBay sellers are recommended:-

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/jmryshi

US based, buys used watches from Japan.

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/kaberui

    Japan based.

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/sabashioyakiz1

    Japan based.

Apparently the Japanese folks like decent, good watches and also like to change them frequently, hence the number of good quality used watches that come from Japan.

I haven't (yet) used any of these three, but do a search on WUS for their names to see what others think of them.

  3. On some movements it's OK.

Problem is which ones? I don't know, and I don't think the answer is a simple one, so far easier to just treat them all the same way.

The other thing to always remember to do is to never, ever, press 'Chrono Reset' when the chrono is running (on a 775x). Always stop and then reset.

  4. Thread lock.

It comes in all sorts of varieties, from "holds like a weld for the rest of time", to "gently holds", and the way of removing it varies as well, from applying heat breaks it down, to a solution you drop into the threads that dissolves it, and of course the ordinary stuff that just needs a bit of muscle to break it.

Don't use stuff too strong unless you never want it to come to bits.

  6. Oh I'm sick of their little cards or letters, "You need to pay BLOOD, SWEAT and TEARS cause the fat cat wants a new solid gold butt plug!"

I wonder if there's any EU country where they don't check US mail as much as the UK?

Just need a friend there then who can ship to the UK :)

  7. Richard

Just say the word and you can try mine!

    Regards

    AJ

    Wow, very much appreciated AJ!

When my little Smiths is finished I'll take you up as you can post both in the same package :)

(should get that posted sometime this week - trying to find something to put the movement in, I think the original case is the best thing!)

  8. Good point Pete.

    Hopefully it'll all be OK.

Got this on order from Angus, an Armida coming from the US from M2M sales, it's a gen so shouldn't be a problem (bet that'll get customs duties), the PP I ordered from Andrew came in a few days, and my finished PO coming from Rolexman.

That'll be in until the new year! And hopefully for many months into 2014!

I think the pearl that's in the bezel in the pics Angus has posted looks good, so the one I get will be a spare.

  9. Pete, the order is upside down, most recent at the top.

Seems to have been posted in the UK, and has arrived in France.

I wouldn't worry until another couple of weeks are up.

Nearly all postal services won't investigate until 28 days have passed.

  10. I was reading yesterday about the 300 odd sites for reps etc that got shut down yesterday...as a clamp down on cyber monday...

I know RWI aint one .... but wondered if it might have effected any of our hang outs? like dealers etc or was it just the scammers etc...I think it was mainly EU and US servers...

Got a link to this news?

    Be interesting to read.

  11. I've thought the same as Pete (about the watch :) )

All case and the He release valve is a bit garish.

If I find one going dirt cheap, maybe one that needs a little bit of work, I'll bite just to try one and see, or if someone brings one to a UK GTG that I go to I'll try it.

  12. Jesus H Christ, here's a page from that Chinese Tungsten mining company that highlights the great properties tungsten has when making FAKE GOLD coins and bars:-

    http://www.tungsten-alloy.com/en/alloy11.htm

    Talk about taking the pee!

"It is necessary to tell that tungsten gold-plated would not work for several reasons but a coin with a tungsten center and gold all around tungsten alloy jewelry could not be detected as counterfeit by density measurement alone."
