  1. If I had that collection of Mike Woods I'd be wondering "Why?".

Unless he's done 90% of it as an investment, there seem to be easily 10+ of any particular watch (by which I mean the same model and combo of strap bezel, etc)

If he has found & bought (e.g.) a watch that he loves, and then found and bought 9 more as an investment, I can understand that, but I don't understand someone having multiple identical items purely from a collectors point of view.

Note that I don't think he's daft, odd, stupid or anything else, I just don't understand his reasoning for the collection (and anything I don't understand i'm always curious to try to see it from their point of view)

  2. Will take a photo shoot when it arrives!

Lets see now <has a look> last news 9 days ago was crystals are being AR'd and the crown is being re-done and then they're ready to be assembled and shipped.

Won't arrive until after xmas & new year, my guess is second or third week in January.

I know what you mean, there's been a load of people buying the gen after waiting ages for this rep and everyone that has done that and that has posted has said they love it.

No gens in ADs in the UK so for me it'll be buying purely on the rep.

Spent up for this year though, the Aviator is the last one until the pay cheque - lets see if there's a bonus and what size it is LOL!

  3. At the moment I'd have to say gen.

I'm discovering there are so many affordable gens out there, brands I've never heard of, designs that look brilliant (and that may look like a homage to something a lot more expensive) that I've got more gens than reps now.

I am wierd in that I'm not bothered by the name on the dial, so probably best to ignore me :D

  4. Fraggle  $23 USDs to you from here (no package as in their box then cost more), but they charge shipping to here $10 and it takes (their est) 35 days ! $45 for quick delivery.

    Well $33 is cheaper than $80! :)

I'm on the first pre-order for the Tudor BB from Angus so I'll see what that's like when it arrives.

This ploy may be handy for other watches through :D

  5. I spotted this a few weeks ago whilst browsing through old Basel threads on WUS.

The looks really struck a chord in me, I've always liked PVD watches and had about 4 or 5, this one seemed to cover nearly all the bases that the others had covered individually so seemed ideal.

Prices were procured and with the help of a very kind gentleman of these forums an order was placed.

I spotted a very tiny discrepancy between the model code in their PDF catalog and on their order form and they were happy it had been spotted and said they'd throw in a couple of free gifts, a hat and a pair of Aviator glasses!

It arrived yesterday and after wresting the parcel out of the neighbours hands and opening it I unpacked everything, laughed, and put the watch on.

ETA 7750 movement with day and date, oversized chrono pushers, non-screw down crown, waterproof to 100M, comes complete with bracelet and black leather strap and changing tool, AR on the inside of the flat sapphire crystal.

I like it, and I hope the photos give you an idea of the watch.

Nice presentation case containing the watch, instruction manual, warranty card, bracelet changing tool, bracelet and black leather strap.

Lume shot - virtually all white printing on the dial has been done in lume. This produces a very nice effect as you can see. The lume isn't all that bright, but i think it is elegantly done

And lastly the watch along with the free goodies, the hat and what I had thought were a pair of Aviator sunglasses... (someone has already nicknamed me Biggles!)

There are a couple of very minor flaws, the chrono second hand is slightly off to the left, and looking *very* carefully with the light just so you can see a few very small scratches on the end of the minute hand - the last flaw is very hard to see, I've had a couple of close looks at it today and couldn't see them, the light really does need to be in just the right place to catch them. For me neither flaw detracts from the watch.

Considering it from a practical point of view, the decision to lume the 6 and 12 subdials and not lume the hands is a bit odd, but do we really buy these to be practical? I may email Aviator and ask them if the sub dial hands are supposed to be unlumed, as taking everything else into account it does seem a bit odd.

Some may consider the dial a bit "busy" but to me the chunkiness of the 2/4/8/10 numbers diminishes the busy look of the dial and it has a lovely symmetrical balance to it.

Overall I am very happy with it.

    Cheers,

    Richard

  6. Anyone used them?

Looking at the details of the fees the buyers premium is 20%, VAT 23.8%, transportation insurance 2.98% (total 46.78%) + postage.

    46.78%!

The watches would have to be approximately half the average local price to make it worth it.

I really can't see it being any use to anyone unless they're "money no object" buyers.
