  1. Sent him an email yesterday lunchtime, waiting on a reply.

I've heard from another RWG member that these were end of line watches, so if they're not making them anymore I might be better off waiting for an earlier one to come up in the sales forum.

    Lets wait and see :)

  2. It amazes me the lengths people will go to when trying to save a dollar or two.

The 6 watch case listed above is $110 USD plus $30 to $40 shipping.

So what you get is a basic case, no QC, no guarantee of delivery, no after sales service if there is an issue for approx $150

On the other hand you could get this beautiful walnut 8 watch case for $195 delivered with guaranteed delivery, professional QC and after sales service....go figure

Honestly every time someone has a grand plan to get better prices than Bergies they never factor in all the benefits I offer.

    Ken

Err, thanks Ken but if you had read the thread from the beginning you would have realised that I initially thought all the prices were 10 times cheaper.

I.e. that box would have been $15, not $150.

Of course I was wrong, and realising the actual prices I'm now not interested at all.

  3. Hi all,

I'm considering ordering an Ebel Chrono SS/SS Yellow hands and noticed this message in the description:-

"Dear customers, please note that we do not send QC pictures for this watch. Upon request we will charge full price"

Which is a bit odd to me? There's nothing on the page saying the price ($268) isn't the full price, or what the full price is?

I know Toro is an active member here and one of the fave TDs, so I'm guessing someone here will know why no QC pics and what it means about the full price? (which will save me asking the man himself as I've no doubt he's busy :) )

  4. I see there is an English front end (kind of) where if you can find the goods you want, you paste the URL in and it translates some of it. Doesn't help with shipping or communication though.

When I initially thought the prices were in Japanese yen I googled for the exchange rate, 1 Ch yen = £0.01 and my unthinking bit of my brain immediately jumped to "Woohoo, one container load, sell them on EBay! Now how to get it past customs?" :)

  5. Where you live looks lovely, but cold!

I spent most of my time growing up right next door to the Lake District in the UK:-

Moved down south now and really miss the nature and scenery.

  6. You could try removing the screw that holds the rotor, take the rotor off just so you can see if there are any rubbing marks on the movement.

Be aware that if you take it to a watchsmith and they poke around in it, the TD isn't really going to want it back to fix unless they personally know the watchsmith, as they don't know the watchsmith (or you) broke it by fiddling around out of curiosity.

If you like the watch and want it serviced properly so it'll last, send it off to Vac and he'll take care of that noise for you anyway. That's what I'd do.

  7. From a post in the IWC forum I found this website

    http://www.taobao.com/

And things like this in it

    http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=2013.1.0.137.10HV4o&scm=1007.77.0.0&id=18247787864

Now, if that price is in japanese yen, then that watch works out at about £35. I don't know what movement it is in it, but it's got to be worth that for parts alone.

How about a sub for under £17?

    ttp://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=2013.1.w6627547065.10.lbsRQY&id=18247439243

I'm convinced the images are from gens, for a starter the rotors on the autos are far too good even for quality reps, but I'm curious what sort of movement their reps have? For that price I'm guessing cheap quarts and the end product is something you wouldn't want to strap to a dog, but i'm still curious :)

I've tried Google and Bing translate, Google works best but doesn't translate anything in the frame below the images.

  8. Watcheden sells them, but the date wheel has the wrong color and it has a quartz movement  :nono:

You don't like quartz movements or the fact having a quartz movement isn't accurate to gen?

I quite like quartz, for a daily beater they're great, no having to set the time first thing in the morning, every morning, because you never choose to wear the same watch twice :)

  9. To add......wear the right watch at the right setting......e.g.:

Your flying coach.....please don't wear your REP AP, Hublot; or something of the kind.

I really like my watches and don't wear them to make any kind of impression to anyone, so I wear whatever I want, whenever I want.

If anyone else feels differently, I think they've just bought into the world of vanity. Nothing wrong with that if that's what they want to do, but its not for me, and its not the only option.

  10. Had a look around, but annoyingly the pound is so weak against foreign currency at the moment I can put together the same items at 2/3rds of the cost (or rather the postage takes the cost upto that point) so have ordered from a UK watch supplier.

Can I suggest that you have a very close look at the quality of tools you are being supplied?

The Chinese pack 6 or 7 different levels of quality in 1 standard pack.

For instance, the screwdrivers we sell as "budget" are in the same packing as our top quality set which goes with the tool kit, but I can assure you they are worlds apart in quality.

I spend a few weeks each year in China, sorting out these very factors, and I know we are buying quality for less than our competitors, and certainly not putting on the margin they do,.

The post cost can sometimes pull the price of our tools almost in to line with local suppliers, however we still believe the quality of tools supplied overcomes this.

I do understand that some tools look similar, however I can assure you they aren't....I fight many battles with suppliers over this quality issue.

    Offshore.

Thanks. Believe me I would have preferred to buy from you but the difference in price allowed me to add a bit more to the money saved and buy a 1000 series watch timer (the cheap Chinese variety)

Where I got the stuff from is very similar to your own shop, I've no idea if they do the trips to source decent parts like you do!

Screwdrivers I went for are these:-

One down from the most expensive ones they had in (they're included in a 4 piece kit)

It's a pity there isn't a cheaper postal option that you have confidence in.

    Richard

  11. May I also suggest getting ahold of a cheapie Asian 6497 to start with? It's large, low cost and easy to work with. I taught my kids how to tear one down and put one back together if that tells you anything.

Will keep my eye out for one when the tools arrive, thanks.
