So I'm thinking its the rubber they use. I ran home to swap the rubber strap for something else (yes, it's that bad) and the other rubber rep strap smells bad too. Different bad, but still awful.
Guess that is something to say about 2nd-hand rep rubber.

V23; no 6:00 register on either Swiss V23 or the DW misery movement; the 6:00 hand is more or les glued on. For Mrs. Ubi... She's fine with that. But for V72, I'd recommend just starting from parts, not a base watch to convert/modify:
Gotcha!
+1 for this approach. That's where I ended up.

All of the above Mike. I graduated HS in 1993. That means that I was too late for the 80's hairspray and sexual promiscuity, and too early for "PINK" and "ABERCROMBIE" written on the back-side of tight sweat-shorts. I blame Kurt Cobain and Eddie Vetter for the "5 layers of flanel" fashion craze I had to endure.

My next build...

No; true mystery movements are similar to a V23. Not quite a V23 but the closest thing to. Their origin is unknown, but with regards to function/layout/design, they emulate the V23.
V23 or V72?

If I could search on RWG right now...that'd be a bigger help than anything!
I'll keep digging. I'll try to look up who Ubi is too.
::: Edit: Found Ubi and sent a PM already :::

This is how it starts:
By a strange chain of emails, I ended up procuring a Patek Phillipe 530 dial.
Upon further investigation, I learned that this not only fits a Valjoux 23 movement, but that was the base-movement for the watch. THAT got me thinking...and searching...and looking some more.
So, who's built one? How close to gen can you get here?
Pic of the dial is attached. A pic of the gen is also attached.
Phong has a case-set that I can pick up, and the pics look good. I'm just hoping that someone has done a similar build that can lend me some guidance.
The dial looks a little "off" to me, so perhaps it's not worth chasing. Opinions?

Edited! This was posted way to early.
Now I have everything in there I found out the last days and weeks. Looking forward to your feedback.
- One missing part would be than the dial and/or hands. I found out that they are very expensive. And I do not even know if they fit? So: what would be the best and closest to GEN dial that can be mounted straight on the mystery movement. I think only black with white chrono dials and white with black chrono dials would be correct? What is a good source? Is there a comparison?
- Also I need more information about the mystery movement. I want to sum this up here too. Any sources? Anybody exchanged it to a GEN VAL23?
Thanks for reading and your help
You don't want a Val23...you want a Val72. (Pick me up a hen's tooth while you're there.)
Seriously though, it's a blast to build. I would/will do mine much differently next time. (...and there WILL be a next-time!)

You ever buy a used watch and the smell of the watch is so offensive, you can't wear it?
I bought a watch a month or so ago (not here) and the smell of Pachouli was so strong, I could hardly stand it. I ended up selling the watch (for other reasons) but had put the rubber strap on another watch. I put that Panerai on this morning, and in the car on the way to work, caught a whif of the band, and it nearly knocked me over. (And time-warped me back to my hippie high-school girlfriend!)
So I scrubbed and scrubbed the rubber strap in the kitchen here at the office, and I can't get it out. I'm about to throw the strap away.
...and I'm feeling REAL bad about the guy I ended up selling that watch to. I hope it didn't smell like this. (Or worse yet, I hope he doesn't think I'm a non-showering hippie.)

Looks like one of Phong's cases. They are still expensive.
Pics of the inside threads would help a lot.

For all the hardwork that our Admin put into RWG recovery.......Happy Fathers Day to you and all the Dads:
Er...is there a watch there?

Curious: Does the ring-lock system work on the reps? Never thought to ask that before.

I wish we'd at least get an update if the status.

Go to bed. I've been there. It's a royal pita, but it happens.
We'll live. :-)

I didn't think the 16710 had engraving?
-
Oh, I don't know about that. My last effort didn't go so great. I think it was DECENT, but not awesome. In fact, I bought lume powder...and have no clue what to do with it.
I'm going to build a bad-ass franken space dweller...not half-ass it. The cases I have aren't great either, so I'm on the hunt for a 16200 case now to get it done right.
I also picked up a 1680 Meters First, and Pan-Am dial...so I've got enough to keep me occupied for a while!

good for me...

This watch stinks!
