  1. Following a fairly random web surf the other day, I came across Zixen - not a brand I had heard of, so I started doing some research. For anyone else, who has not heard of them, they are one of a number of boutique manufacturers that base (to a greater or lesser extent) their designs on classic watch designs. My personal new love is for the DSR500, which is based on Omega's FlightMaster series, which was produced in the late 60's early 70's. I would be interested to hear from members who have any experience of the brand, especially this model. Meanwhile, I've started to save the pennies..... Regards Beano
  2. Nice find Nanuq Having only recently been converted to the style of the Doxa Sub - this is quite interesting... I agree with previous comment re. the dial. It seems a tad bland IMO The rest of the watch looks good - The test is when someone get's one on their wrist and can confirm if it's $500+ well spent. B
  3. Nice trio there Thanks for taking the time to do the side-by-sides - I can't see a difference in the steel. Beano P.S. Love the Tudor - why is there no 'cartel' reps of the great Tudor models??
  4. Thanks for the review. Let's hope that ET can get the back orders and QA to Be able to match yours example which looks good to me. I'm still waiting.... Beano
  5. Nice. Like the mix of colours - SS, PVD and blue.. I've not heard of 'The Baron'. Any info to share on this. Is it a version of the 'Project X' watches? Beano
  6. At the risk of asking a dumb question whistling: .... Who's Mary?
  7. Thanks Denz Sixx - looking at the 1665 sub as I want try my hand at 'vintagising'... Looking at a dress watch and just can't decide whether to go modern Rolex Daydate II or something older.....decisions decisions. Regards, Benao
  8. I'm looking to make some purchases from PT and noticed that one of the payment methods uses a service called 95ePay based GZ. I haven't found any reference to this service on RWG and wondered if anyone has used this service and was it ok? Thanks in advance for any input. Regards Beano
  9. Teejay - Very clean lines on the Cellini. Nice choice ASCIWhite - I have to admit that's a new one on me. I need to do some research. It reminds of a Panerai, but looks more subtle. I like it.. as well Looks like that's four watches on the list - Looks like I'm going to have to brush off the DJ and go out me to justify the need
  10. Thanks Plaifender - The Railmaster would be on my list
  11. Whilst browsing a number of our suppliers websites this afternoon, I came across this http://puretimewatch.com/index.php?productID=2023 This seems to be the latest (well 12mths out) model of the watch that first got me interested in Rolex (and indeed watches)- the DayDate. My uncle had a gold Gen which he used to let me 'wear' when he came to visit - I was only 8-10 so this thing seemed huge and I could barely lift my arm Anyway.... I came across the DayDate II (slightly bigger case?) and wonder what you guys thought of it I thought it would would be a great dress watch - as all my other watches are very much in the sports category. What do you thing is the best dress watch (please no bling )????
  12. I'm waiting on a replacement 'upgraded v5' ordered late November. The first was DOA so ET is exchanging it. Photo's of the replacement have the corrected position ring-lock text. Dial print looks ok (as far as you can tell in photo). No idea if what I will get is the 'upgraded, upgraded v5' Trying to be patient....... Beano
  13. Looking Good ASCIWhite - I'm waiting for pics of my replacement.... Beano
  14. After much anticipation my DSSD arrived today. Unpacked the jiffy envelope (for such a weighty watch, I would have thought more substantial packaging would be used to protect the watch) and.... the second hand has come off and has bent... :black_eye: PM'd & emailed Helina and await her reply - so far communications has been good on this transaction, so fingers crossed. I thought I would provide a mini-review of based on my first impression (sorry no pics at the moment as camera has been left at a friends!). Please note that I have not removed the protective plastics (apart from on the crystal) as I expect it will get returned: Case: All parts seem to align properly. SELS sit neatly Crystal: Not had such a domed crystal before - now I understand the issues with getting a true face-on picture without getting any distortion. Bezel: Movement is not as solid as on my SSD, but very acceptable. Markings look good to me - no under/over paint. Watch Face: Where the second has has come off, it looks like its scratch the text on 'DEEPSEA' and 'Perpetual' but the text looks to be straight. As are the hour markings. DW sits true in the window Looks like I've got an example the off-set ring lock text - 'E' is to the left of 12 hour marker, with the 'C' of lock sitting under the 6. The pearl is perfect Lume - is the best I've had on a rep (there is some!). Strap: From what I can see/feel - the glide-lock seems to work well. Clasp is slightly misaligned. I would not think this is noticeable when wearing the watch. Obviously a good clean and lube works wonders, but nothing looks to be wrong with this strap and clasp. In summary then, major disappointment with the damaged second hand (and the scratch on the face). Pleased with the overall look and feel of this beast.... Regarding the ring lock text - can anyone confirm if this is an easy fix or not? Looks like I won't be wearing a new watch when Santa visits, but hopefully Helina and the team can sort me out. Regards, Beano
