  1. I have 3 dealers that I've dealt with to date.   PayPal acceptance is important to me, so there are some well regarded TD's that I just won't deal with.   Recently, I've leaned toward Toro and Ryan, because they offer a more narrow selection and give me the impression that they are more selective in their pieces that some of the larger TD's.

Agree, Ryan takes a lot of beating. Good communication and helpful, even when customs destroy your watch.  :g:

  2. Hi,

I was wondering whether one of the board Panerai experts could help me identify the origins of this PAM.

I'm looking to sell it in the Sales forum but wanted to put something meaningful in the description and most of all identify it as the correct model

It was bought from eBay about 11 years ago, when they allowed people to openly sell replica watches. I'd also be grateful if anyone could PM with a suggested price.

    Thanks

  3. I think they're a striking watch, I nearly bought a Superocean as shown in your advert but bought something completely useless instead and still regret it to this day. One of my all time favourite watches is the Breitling GMT from the 70's.

  4. Hi,

Don't worry, its nothing, you just need to provide them with something with your address and a picture ID and upload the images to them, within about a day your account will be restored.

Its because of European Money Laundering regulations and nothing to do with buying errrhmmm watches.  ;)

Gone are the days when PP only had one stipulation and that was you had to have a pulse.

    Best Regards

  5. Its an interesting topic, as Nanuq rightly says it was blurred back then, most of it was because swiss watch manufacturers believed that mechanical watches were their past and their future, when all people really wanted was an accurate way of telling the time for a relatively small outlay, consider the James Bond films of the time, in the mid to late 70's films, James Bond wears a Seiko Digital watch, not a mechanical watch. So while it is definitely mis-leading to refer to a Sicura as a Breitling, as fans of watches, we should be grateful to Sicura for saving Breitling as a brand from obscurity.  :)

The Breitling/Sicura association isn't the only example of this, check out Heuer and Leonidas, the Heuer and Zodiac Autavias, not quite the same but it helped to keep the Heuer brand alive.

    Nice Cosmo Nanuq!  :clap2:

  6. Most of the time it's so that Sicura watches show up in eBay searches for Breitling.

Breitling has a chequered history from 1979 onwards, being owned by Sicura and then Ollech and Wajs. O&W produced historic Breitling Navitimer and Chronomat type models under the Avaition brand but Sicura only ever made their own models and bought the Breitling name when the company fell on hard times due to their reluctance to make quartz watches.

It's a bit like in the car world calling a Lamborghini an Audi just because Audi own them, while they might share some internal components, they're two very different cars.

  7. Yes, Angus is a Trusted Dealer here and is a good guy to deal with.

The best way to approach this is to become familiar with the genuine watch, the catalogues are openly available from the Breitling Dealers, compare the Rep with the Gen and then decide whether you can live with short comings of the Rep. All Reps have "tells" this one, the hob nailing isn't as deep as the Genuine.

Its your money you're spending, so its always best to do your own research.

Most of these watches are now sold out and out of production as they were initially released some time ago, so it may be best to mail him/Sales, their contact details are in the Dealers section.
