  1. I would suggest a Panerai or a high end Rolex  if your looking for something you would be able to pull off. Alternative, the Tudor BB

I agree, and all closed caseback because if someone asks to see it then with a glass caseback you're fu__ed ;)

A good choice could also be the BlancPain Fifty Fathoms: only the real knowledged will get what it is and in the meantime is not "that obvious" like a Rolex

  2. Yep Mike :-)

50$ more for a check on the movement version is insane, com'on...

Or they can put let's say 20$ more and clearly state that the 1st point is quality, and only 2nd is timing. I'm one of those that will wait 1 week more to have a good one instead to have "next day crap" ;)

About the IWC: well, that's sad!

  3. Dear TDs,

just a couple of questions for you:

    1) we all know the problems of the a7750 modded with secs @6 (many IWC / Rolex Daitona and probably some others I can't remember) and secs @12 (mainly Audemars Piguet).

I don't know about the APs, but I'm sure there is a big potential market for the IWCs that is waiting to purchase them because of this problem (I'm one of them).

Since the process of creating a top rep goes through the purchase of a gen to disassemble and analyze, why it looks so hard to copy the IWC module (just consider it's a module that goes over a standard 7750, not anything "fancy") and finally solve this sec @6 issue? There's a big potential market if only this problem gets finally solved... Instead I still see shouts like "New improved over improved, very best, 1:1, ultra modded a7750 29j" which is a proper lie, as even skeletonizing the sec @6 gears this movement is still very bad and stops after 1 week -> 1 month.

    2) in another forum a recently acquired TD (which has good knowledge of the movements) has set a real QC procedure that, at least, is focused to check if a watch comes with the advertised movement (i.e. if it's paid for an ETA is must be an ETA, if it's paid for an A2836 it must be a proper A2836 and not one of these bloody clones of the clones AKA new breed asian high beat, also called "the troublemakers").

With current rep prices it's not a silly request from our side: we are not paying hundreds dollars or € just for the exterior look, we want to use our watches.

We are ok that we need to service them, but definitively we (at least me) are not ok to get good looking watch and crappy movement inside when paid for a good movement.

Again: I see a big market here for those sellers that can put in place a similar procedure (takes 5 min / watch if closed caseback, and 1 min in case of glass caseback).

So, can you do this? In the end the time lost for QC goes back to you in terms of increase of customers!

    I said.

  4. Actually it is not a 2813 but a CH8836 which is a clone of the Asian clone A2836-2 which is also a clone of the ETA .. Lol

It is high beat and parts are interchangeable, and it is 25j

Finally a name with a sense. Here between the 21j, the 2813, the dg2813, the 2813 new breed and the dg2813 high beat it in becoming a REAL mess!!!

Any way I've seen in another thread that this clone of clone isn't interchangeable with eta or Asian eta: the rotor hole is bigger, the underneath parts different too, and looks like the hours hand is too lose :/:(

  5. Give a look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radio_clock#List_of_radio_time_signal_stations

I would be concerned anyway: I don't know if a watch that is able to synch with a 60 and 77.5 kHz (UK, Jap, US - Germany) can, for instance, synch also with a 5MHz antenna in Argentina.

Anyway, I'm wearing now a radiocontrolled Analog+Digital Casio watch (my battle horse one) and I'm far from any antenna (I'm south of Naples for work) and it's working as a normal quartz watch. Same for my 2 weeks in Lagos (Nigeria) last January.

  6. Went with Sead(supermirros) with latest purchase after reading a few reviews from like Mike and AJ I basically asked Sead for what I wanted, asked him to go get me a good one didnt bother with QC's as to speed up the process.

    Doing the same here.

Not to speed up anyway, but because I asked him to double check for the quality of what he's getting for me. I clearly told him that I'm not in hurry, but that I want good pieces and reliable movements :)

    Anyway, back to the subject:

  7. You're right Smab,

this is actually the reason I'm purchasing now from 2 sellers only, ToroBravo and Sead (Supermirrors), because they both looks a bit less of typical sellers and a bit more into the watches (especially Sead that, if I got it right, is also a modder; but also TB which is in the luxury chinese brands as well).

They're definitively not cheap but if this means to be sure to have good mechanics and custom seizure protection then I'm ok. Maybe they could compensate the fact that they spend more time in the quality checks with the fact that they spend less time on their website (Sead even doesn't have one at all)... Don't know if this has any sense anyway.

I'm simply interested only into dealers that respect their words (i.e. don't say "Yes I probably have that model" and then "Ops, it's not available anymore" after you paid - or "Yes I'll send you TimeGrapher QC picture" and then not sending them) and that provide good and reliable pieces.

Back to your case: instead of sending back the watch, isn't possible to have only the correct calibre paying the shipping costs only? Well, providing the case, hands etc will fit in the new movement...

  8. To the OP TJGladeRaider:

    1. thanks for this post, I always wanted to get how the water proof quality of a watch is measured. I thought through some very sensitive manometer but definitivelly I didn't think about something that immediate like looking for bubbles (mainly because I didn't think about putting the watch in water AFTER putting pressure in the case, only way not to fill it with water if it's not properly waterproof)
    2. your're now stimulating my other hobby ("do-it-by-yourself") to see if I can build up a tool like that by my own :D I think the tricky part is the watch suspender mechanism, which should be pressure proof... The rest shouldn't be that complicated to build, using a simple bike pump (or my 50 liters belt compressor) as pumping engine.

One question from my side: which kind of pressures a direct tap water stream can produce? I'm thinking about when I wash my hands in the sink, or taking a shower... I know that it can be quite a strong pressure but not imagining how much.

    Thanks again :-)

  9. "BP factory uses refurbished ETA movement the noob factory have new ETA" Toro you sure about that, I just can not see it w/ the Swatch group cutting off everyone slowly but surely noob is getting them........... :g:

I will say this though the Sinn in the raffle was from Toro it had a stem/ winding issue I sent to misiekped, it was Swiss looking good per him. :pimp:

guys, i'm not getting why they "simply" (maybe it's not that simply to have these movements, don't know the situation) don't go for:

    1) Sellita (which are actually Swiss ETA Clone, made in Switzerland for the open market and available)

    2) Miyota:(Citizen Jap group, again very good movements, reliable and available for the open market).

Maybe some factory claims they're ETA when they are Sellita: it would be NO problem for me if clearly stated. Sellita are great ETA-clone movements so there's no risk using them.

We have gens like the AP Royal Oak 15400 that is beating at 21.6kBPH, but the super reps use the high beat movements: just wondering why they don't put a Miyota 821A in them: beautiful movement, reliable, cost wise and beating at gen's speed...
