  1. I bought 5 watches from Amatory.biz way back when. I had to buy 5 to get the "wholesale" price. :lol:

    It was a different experience. They called me shortly after ordering to confirm the order, and they called me after the watches arrived.

    As for the watches, they're decent cheapos. Even at "wholesale" price :lol: they were about double what I should have paid. Aside from a tiny screw that fell out of one of my wife's watches, they all still run fine today. One of them is one of my wife's current fav. (She's easy to please, though.)

    You're far better off here rather than out there in the rep jungle. You could get a Noobmariner for what I paid for one of those Amatory watches.

  2. I had a problem with my Graham Oversized Chronofighter and called the only watch guy listed in the YP's of my 230,000 population town. :thumbdown: He hemmed and hawed but agreed to look at it, thinking it was a $25 Canal Street watch. He was blown away by the watch but refused to work on it because it was a chrono. Good for him. I wouldn't want him working on it anyway.

    I sent it back to Sead who fixed it for free as it was still under warranty.

    I think I'll stick with the watchmen on the fora from now on.

  3. My wife is addicted to that show. :thumbdown:

    There's all kinds of product placement advertising on TV these days. They used to have Penta water on Biggest Hoser but Penta must have stopped shelling out the $ because they've been gone for a couple of years.

    I'm all for losing weight and getting healthy, but I can't stand any "reality" show.

  4. Chrono watches are much more difficult to make water resistant than non-chrono watches. PO has the helium value, another weak spot.

    IMO, best our-of-the-box for water use are the Breitling Superocean Steelfish watches. I've also taken my SlyTech (a chrono watch) and noob Sub into the water.

    Best advice is to grease the seals yourself or have a watchman do it for you. Then have it tested to see how deep it will go. Doesn't cost much and can usually be done locally. To do anything else is to guess. I guessed with the 3 watches I mentioned above and did okay.

    Also, it's not uncommon for reps to arrive with a loose caseback.

    Edit to add: keep this in mind:

    There is actually a European standard for the descriptions used to indicate water resistance on watches. It goes something like this:

    '30m' or '3 ATM' : Splash proof but should not be submerged. Not suitable for swimming.

    '50m' or '5 ATM' : Suitable for swimming but not poolside diving.

    '100m' or '10 ATM' : Suitable for swimming, poolside diving and watersports.

    '200m' or '20 ATM' Suitable for diving. (Always check manufacturers guide as not all '200m' watches are designed for diving.)

    Watches with the lowest level of water resistance are labeled simply "water-resistant." They can withstand splashes of water but should not be submerged. Above that (or below it, literally speaking), the most common designations are

    -50 meters (1 meter is about 3.3 feet), which means the watch is suitable for swimming;

    -100 meters; indicating it can be worn snorkeling;

    -200 meters, suitable for recreational scuba diving and, believe it or not,

    -1,000 meters (roughly three-fifths of a mile).

    Watches in this last category can endure deep-sea diving. Their gaskets are made of materials that can withstand the helium used in decompression chambers. Some have valves that let the wearer release the helium that has seeped into the watch so the case won't explode as the watch and diver adjust to normal atmospheric conditions, says Peter Purtschert, technical director at Breitling USA.

    Keep in mind that the depth specified on the watch dial represents the results of tests done in the lab, not in the ocean.

  5. @AD: sure thing. that's what I'm here for. As to why wm9 website doesn't say the same thing, remember wm9 website addresses and sells to a different audience.

    I keep forgetting.

    Clockpilot: I got the same email and was told my watch would arrive on 2/25. I emailed them and asked if I would get notification when it shipped but haven't heard back. A guy recently said he got his a week earlier than he was told.

    Where does WM9 ship from?

  6. there's a catch. The cases are factory rejects... he came up with the idea of "refurbished". I know I'm not supposed to say everything. But I have to give you all a "buyers beware". These refurbished 2007 Z's have problems like uneven crown guard; crooked tube; bumps and scratches on rehaut, etc. Everything else, e.g. dial, insert, crown, etc are all good v2 stuff. It's a good deal if you put in some work yourself. Uneven crown guards can be fixed by shaving them till they are even; crooked tube might be fixable by reinstalling the tube and screwing it in tightly; bumps and scratches on the rehaut can be polished away.

    :thumbdown: That's not what his website says.

    I hope I didn't lead anyone astray here.

    If I get a goofy one, maybe BK can fix it for me? :) Since we're practically neighbors.

    I'm all thumbs when it comes to fixing these kinds of flaws.

  7. FYI, WM9 is selling "refurbished" V1/V2 watches for $375. You get a slightly used case (maybe minor swirls) but the V2 dial, hands, bezel insert, and, of course, the super-luminova.

    This is a brand new watch with REFURBISHED 2007 Z Submariner watchcase and bracelet from returns or service projects left over. There may be slight cosmetic imperfections on the watchcase and bracelet, for example: scratches. The dial/hands set/bezel insert and crown set are brand new.

    I've got one coming.
