James Cameron doesn't do what James Cameron does for James Cameron. James Cameron does what James Cameron does because James Cameron is James Cameron!

I personally would like to start seeing Rolex do more with different gold, they have their own damn gold smelting plant, why not give you an option of everose or whatever on that watch (which would then translate into the rep's)

Sorry no experience with them. The noob DJ II was a nice piece for $250. She could go right for the top shelf and get a mymanmatt DJ:).
Sent from my droptop using telepathy.
I have a gen Datejust - which isn't just the date, ironically it tells time too! Albeit less well than a modern regulated ETA haha but whatever, it's like 50+ years old.
MyManMatt does AMAZING work from what I've seen, bump+100

I'm also a newbie to the rep game, joined here after making a hasty purchase. Anyway I'm also looking at Trusty for a sub rep. I fancy the 16610 but again I'm trying to decide if the ROLSUB108A or the ROLSUB108C is the one to go for. The only difference I can tell is the movement, would the Asian 2824/3135 movement be worth the money over the 2813?
I'm not sure if I'm correct on this but is the 2824/3135 an Asian clone of an ETA movement made to look like a Rolex movement and also it has a higher beat than the 2813?

Maybe someone can explain to me how this guy can sell that watch for $160 bucks and I'm paying $125 for a rep-dial alone....

It sure would be nice if the forum would let you post links!

This looks like the 108B sub you were inquiring about. It looks decent- crown guards are good, The 2824-2 made to look like a Rolex 3135 could be questionable- hope it holds up. I doubt the bezel construction is gen-like, something the TC and BK 16610 reps have, but they run $500 +.

This is the first watch you posted and it's the original noobmariner with the F520117 serial number. Whether you get an actual 2836-2 in the swiss version is highly doubtful. This is a kind of dated watch- it was great in 2007, but now days the BK and TC 16610s are better- but of course more expensive.
You can get the noob for $158 with the asian 21j movement (plus s&H)

Or check some of the other dealers or even Trusty and see if you can get the noobmariner with the asian 2836-2.
Noobs are great beaters, but the more you get into the hobby the more you'll want a BK or a TC, if the 16610 is your thing.
Well that site blew up fast.

From experience I will say this:
Do not blow it all on a case.
Why?
Because when you grow tired of the watch (and you will), a used Phong case is not worth a whole lot except right here. Right here = this forum or others like it.
What is so great about a Phong case?
I do not really know but everyone says they are very good and have super good serial numbers.
You need proof?
Ok, I have a Phong 1655 case and it is very good. The serial numbers are super good...but they do not show.
The Yuki dial recommendation is good.
Why?
Because they are relatively inexpensive and pretty good overall. If you get a dud, sell it or send it back and buy another one.
The 1560 is a good choice.
Why?
Because a Yuki 5512 dial will fit a 1560.
Something else...iirc most high $$ aftmkt 5512 cases are made like the later cases...a little bit thicker with an O ring under the crystal retaining bezel etc and the 1560 came in thinner cases without the top O ring etc, etc.
What I am trying to say is:
No matter how much $$ you spend, you still have a Frankenstein and a Frankenstein with a $1200 case. $1000 movement, $500 dial, and $500 bracelet looks just like a Frankenstein with a $500 case, $200 movement, $110 dial, and $150 bracelet. The only difference in actual worth is the 1560 and genuine bracelet.
Go low to medium $$ the first time around and see how you like it.
Why?
Because a monkey wearing a $4k Tuxedo is still just a monkey...and a $1000 monkey beats a $4000 monkey.
I rest my case.
I think that's a seriously good and valid point.... pretty much exactly what I'm doing on my build with gen movement.
