  1. Hi gang,

I'm looking for one good GMT to add to my collection,

can you please suggest me the best GMT out of the box?

thank you for your help! <_<

The Chopard Mille Miglia is the only rep I haven't modded save a lume job. It's very good out of the box. A warning that mine had some movement issues and The Zigmeister had to pull his hair out fixing, but I think that was my bad luck as others haven't had that issue. BUT, it is a very nice oob rep.

  2. If that is yours big congrats. It is the first new Rolex I have been interested in for quite a while. If I can get the money together I am wondering if buying the first year and sticking in a safe deposit box for my kids might be a good idea. Any thoughts?

Rolex has been and probably will be a good investment, but you gotta like the watch. Cause with any luck the kids won't be selling... So, if you like it, great idea. I don't like the model ... not my taste... but still a nice timepiece.

  3. Thats true, but this doesn't seem to be about pricing. It seems that Angus is purposely trying to sabotage J&As sales efforts. Price decreases are simply a retaliation.

Maybe that's just business. Not good business on Angus' part, but folks will always try whatever they think will work. I don't know if Angus is trying to sabotage as much as he is trying to steal market share.

    Its good... for now.

But, one of two things can happen. One side loses the war and goes away, or the two sides come to an agreement and the cartel grows. Both scenarios aren't good for the buyer.

  4. IMOP.. women are the "gathers" in organizing picnics camping.. what needs to go .. the details that we would overlook..

Men are Hunters ... we go shopping .. we know what we want ... we go in .."kill" it and get out

Women can Look and look for the sake of looking and leave

so watches .. another animal... I believe rep collectors are forced to look for details... then with a passion are attuned to "attention to detail" .. out of necessity and OCD...

I am not sure what Lani is saying here, but I really assume that most of us are men... nearly all I think... but I think women are more detail oriented....In general, I am not, but I do have ocd re: watches...

  5. Is it possible to buy another A7750 easily and how much would it cost? How difficult is it to install?

Wait.. first get the back off... then get some dessicant... like what comes in vitamins and but it in a tupperware with an open lid and the warch (dial side down) under a lamp. Wait a day or so. Check it out. It maybe nice and try. A week is a long time, but you MAY be ok. Try that and see what happens. I personallywould not have waited a week and if I did it would be off to The Zigmeister, but you may be ok ... dessicant and direct heat are key.

  6. Blah blah blah...

You guys truly understand what is at the heart of every vintage Rolex lover. The time, blood, sweat and tears that it must take to complete such a project is unimaginable to me.

Congratulations to both of you and I truly look forward to seeing the finished project.

What I struggle with is what is the threshold... at which... you decide to make a franken for a boat load of money v. buy a lesser gen for less money. That is, I can buy a gen 5512 for ~$7k... while making a good dsrd will cost me +/-1200 the movement, the rep case @ say $500 and of I want a gen dial, say $1500 for that. Now, its a lot less than a gen dsrd, but not that much less than a gen 5512. I dunno. I am stuck...

  7. Great to hear some more RWG friends are interrested in joining us.

So far we have a great local friend (my favourite NYC guide :winkiss: ) who's available almost everyday to meet everyone: Jetsons

Also confirmed is JoJo35 and Vlydog.

Vlydog is available on monday 25th ONLY.

So, I suggest that the "main" GTG should be held on monday.

But, as I already said, I am more than happy to see you guys several times as is Jetsons too...

It can be for lunch, dinner, a drink or even for tourist activities for those who don't really know NYC.

Please PM me with your eMail details as I intend to create an eMail loop so that all are aware of others planning.

If you prefer, I can do this in blind CC :brow:

Monday 25th seems to be the starting point thus. :victory:

Pretty sure I can make it. Sounds like a good time!

  8. Time To Kill (TTK, Neil, The true Kwisatz Haderach) still around? I have always enjoyed his posts so much :) Hes a true genius :1a:

I have been here for only a day or so and wonder if TTK is still around doing well and happy?

    Regards

    Gran :drinks:

Honestly, he was an arrogant PITA who mistook disrespect for humor. Genius my ass. It is nicer without him. Good job mods!

  9. OK FINE, IT WAS ME... And I will continue to post pics of WHATEVER I want, WHENEVER I want, WHEREVER I want!

Now who is gonna come give me head, I mean get my head, I mean chop off my head? Im so damn confused, on second thought maybe it wasnt me who posted the pictures on TZ.

I am also cornfused and squashtraded... but I know one thing... I am not going to give you head. :o

  10. If someone calls you out, look them in the eyes and say Jetmid. Then they will understand.

What am I missing with Jetmid???

Anyway, No, you can't usually tell unless its really bad or you get a good look. Usually people are moving all around and you cant see the small details that give away these top quality reps. Don't know much about Brietling, I should say, but it applies for the brands I do know.

  11. YES I CAN.

Here is the way I look at it... SOMEONE has to pay for the engineering, tooling, machining and production of the parts necessary to basically take a movement that was meant to do one thing and make it do something completely different. These makers arent taking parts off of a shelf and slapping them on a movement and calling it a day. (at least not on the sec at 12 ROO). Take a look at the pics of this movement, some thought went in to that watch. And what other watch is that movement going to be used on? How many sec at 12 chronographs are out there???

If they sell 500 of these watches and you attribute $250 to each movement for the moving of the second subdial (which I dont think is accurate...) they will cover the cost of all the research, tooling, machining and manufacturing. But too much less than the $250 premium, and I dont think they would.

PLUS, the entire case was redesigned. They DIDNT just slap the new movement in the old case! The new case is VASTLY better than the $300 ones.

I think MOST still fail to realize that we [censored] about the cost of a $600 watch when it is replicating a $20-$40k watch. I think the people who should be shitting purple twinkies are those people who buy the gen! What the hell are they REALLY getting for their money besides the ability to say they have the real thing!

To compare, I once paid $6k for a custom built turbo system for a Honda Civic. WHY??? When there was another available for half that... Because I wanted something different. And the price I paid included the research, tooling and manufacture of what I wanted. My only downfall was that I lived in California and the first time I got pulled over, I had the car impounded because the system was not CARB approved.

I dont think we take in to consideration the cost of R&D when we try to "guess" the cost of manufacturing. And the simple fact is EVERYTHING in China is costing more to manufacture this year. 75% of the merchandise that I sell is manufactured and imported from China. I negotiate directly with the factory, and bring this stuff in by the container... My costs have risen 32% so far in 2008.

    Just some food for thought.

$6k extra on a Civic?????? I am not sure a civic even goes for 6k???? ;)

  12. Hi. I've got a PAM 063 with lello DW, a new Chief Cyclops on the way, and palp crown. Only thing I need to finish is a proper movement. I've got my eye on a 2893-2 to swap into my PAM063. Only thing is, The Zigmeister says the GMT hand needs to be replaced. Any ideas where I could get a proper 2893-2 GMT hand for a pam063?

  13. The left one is a bad rep. Cyclops is way too right and it has ZERO rehaut thickness. Very obvious.

The right one... difficult to tell from these pics, as they're less than stellar. Very unnatural lighting.

    But let me guess:

The right one... rehaut looks too deep and it doesn't seem have the correct "cylinder" below the crystal (or then the lighting in your picture is distorting it and making it too smooth). Also, either it's the lighting again, or then there's not enough rehaut thickness. I suspect it's the old TW/MBW case. Also, the SEL isn't tight enough, the springbar is shining through from the SEL edges. See the next pic (SEL upper corner left, where your index finger is)

Cg's looks excellent, crown is genuine, gen pearl, maybe a gen date font overlay. Very good rep... that's my guess.

If you post a bit better pics, It'll be much easier to tell.

PS: I'm talking about this one. Is this is the right one? If this is the left one, I need to rethink. :)

    329155614_iXYju-M.jpg

Completely agree. I think the one on the right is an MBW judging by the mag, rehaut, and loose-ish end-link.

  14. The MBK case isn't correct, it has no fixed strap bars and the wrong markings, but if that's not that important to you drill the lugholes out and I'm sure some stainless bars could be soldered in place and voila!

Dials and hands can be purchased for a 1520 from the usual suspects; Jewelry & Watch, Classic Watch Parts, or ND Trading. IMO I like the NDT 5517 dial the best.

Good luck on the project and keep us updated!

Jewelery and watch has the 'right' case for $1650! Wow. Any alternatives?
