  1. Nice smartass comments about Sprockett not knowing how to read a 24 hour hand when he makes it very clear in his initial post that the GMT hand is losing time. Maybe people should read what someone actually has to say before firing off the snidery.

I seem to recall the PAM GMT watches commonly having this problem, something about the hand stack causing friction. The Zigmeister wrote about it extensively.

Seriously. For once, get off that high horse of yours and quit being so pretentiously righteous all the bloody time.

  2. Absolutely has to be a Pre-A for me with a T dial - either the 5218/201A or maybe a PVD model - serious money for the 202A MM!!

Ahhh for sure!! If money were to be no object, any Pre-Vs would do. Otherwise, the next best thing would be Pre-2A for me.

  3. I wouldnt take any chances esp. when there is $$ in the PP acct. Sorry the deal did not go thru. Be more selective with who you sell to. I have a bunch of stuff which I will be putting up for sale. I guess I have to deal with it as well.

  4. Trust me the AD had some very very nice Breitlings, Omegas, and even a Rolex SUb around the price I paid for a BASE Panerai.

BUT I wanted to buy a watch I will LOVE everytime I will look at it and know that I will not regret it for the next few years.

I didn't wanted to do an investment.

How I knew the Base was that? Because of the 'excuse' we sometimes give to the genuine owners that we buy reps to see if the genuine will fit us..

I didn't do it for this but it ended like that.

Honestly whatever we will do no rep can ever touch the quality of the genuine. You do a relume, you have to scratch the dial. You change crowns you have to trim something. Change glass and it breaks... Small details that can always separate the gen from the rep. I didn;t mind and I won't mind in my future rep purchases.

As for why I choose the 112, I could afford the 111H and it was available but I chose not to get it because I have WORE for many months both 112 and 111 and I knew which one I prefered best...

At the end reps made me choose without having to risk if I will like or not a watch. PLUS now I know that this watch can be for a lifetime if I take care of it..

Reps could be too but I never seen them like that (Hence I always bought the cheapest Asian versions - Quantity vs Quality was what I thought)

I know frank watches like Ubi's are superb but I cannot consider them entirely reps.

Cant believe I missed this. Sorry for replying late.

Exactly my sentiments Kostas. Like you, I never buy watches for investment. I buy them to wear them. I don't plan to sell any of my gen watches anyway. Every purchase marks an important occasion for me and it would be silly of me to let go any of them imo.

Funny thing is that I did not even get a 111 rep before I bought the gen. I knew I wanted a gen beater for everyday use. A second hand function is of particular importance and I wanted a watch which is not too dressy, a watch that smiles back at me when I take a glimpse from time to time and of course, a brand that I love - An easy choice there - Panerai. I know this will not be my last Panerai, there will be more in the future. :wounded1:

Good on ya for choosing 112. Excellent choice right there. When I saw the 111 at a boutique, it did not do much for me. But seeing a 112 knocked me over. I love the 112. Having a practical watch is more important for me at this stage, so I proceeded with 111. No regrets. Awesome awesome watch. I have caught myself staring at it for too long.... far too many times. As for the 112, it is definitely high on the priority list. :)

Edit: And of course I still love my reps  Still wear them out, some of them I used them specifically for rugged usage like the gym and stuff. Now those are real beater watches! And none has let me down so far... yeehah! :drive1:

  5. Bought her a PP24. She thinks that is alright - nothing fantastic.

    *scratches head*

She then starting browsing Panerai website. Spotted a watch that caught her eye. Not a 40mm. Nope, not a 44mm either. A 47mm!! PAM217 destro... Mmmkay. I thought maybe it is just the pictorial.

She tries on my gen. 111, nope. Doesnt do anything. She likes it but prefer destro and the look of the Marina Militare. Insisted on a 217, got that for her and BAM. She loves it.

How funny. But now she has another one - PAM049. Both looks wonderful on her. She still thinks very highly of her 217 tho, definitely getting more wrist time than any other watches - and she loves winding it! Oh how can u not adore her!

  6. Admin, you are an asset to this community and it saddens me to know that you are leaving. I'm sure I am not the only one who shares the same sentiments. I'm terribly sorry to hear about the recent events that has affected your life. It has been difficult for you - plus the additional events happening within your family - I can only imagine how hard it is. I would like to wish you all the best in the future journeys ahead and most importantly, best wishes to your health as well as your family (esp. your grandmother and your aunt).

I would like to thank you for all the information that you have provided me in our conversations. You have went that extra mile to help me and I have to thank you somehow. (I have PMed you my email addy - we'll catch up sometime in the near future - HK, Singapore, UK, Canada - whatever) You are a good man Admin. Remember that.

    Adieu my friend...

    Aaron

  7. My missus opted for a 217. She fell in love with it when she saw it on the Panerai site. So I got her a rep. Few days later, the glass broke. Replaced it with Davidsen's AR glass and she is all set to go. Crazy big watch on her tiny wrist..... She has PP24 as well. But her fav is still the 217. Crazy but if that's what the gal wants she gets. :bleh:

  8. I think it not so fair for the guys who want but cannot have it, for me to come here and post hundreds of pictures of it

It is not a matter that they 'cannot have it' but whether if they are willing to invest on a watch which is costs so much more when they can get a rep so close to a gen for much lesser. I'm sure a lot of members here can afford pams but simply cant justify paying so much for such a relatively inexpensive non-inhouse movement. :)

If one does not want to pay for something, there are 1001 excuses for it and vice-versa. I know it 'cos I am like that.

Enjoy the 112 Kostas. The base is one hell of a watch. I would have gotten the base if I can forgo the second hand dial ( but need that function for my daily practices). Ah well, an excuse to get another. :bleh:

  9. Trying saying that again when your business gets bogged down because of one anal customer. (Not forgetting that it affects us buyers as well.) The reaction displayed here in this thread is normal human reaction. Maybe this thread did sparked a resolution to the initial problem? (I believe Efren did mentioned that someone pointed this thread to him on another forum) So I guess it did help resolve the misunderstandings between both parties, at least from my perspective. And I stand firm that such customers should be banned. (Well, that is a whole new issue itself. I shall stop here before the sh*t hits the fan).
