Hello mead, can I ask you which crown size did you go for?
-
Hello, nice to meet you and thank you for the advice. I know that it is not easy and admire all of you who have not only the knowledge but also the courage to do so. The thing is I can never be satisfy with a rep. There has to be something wrong. And as my budget is not enough for me to attain the unattainable rolex, which has always been my dream watch, I decided to build one. Since I've been waiting for so long now, I think I'm prepared to mess up. For now, I think I would not get that rep because the size is just wrong. Will find one that the size is right, maybe buy just the case so as to save money for the problems that may occur and will research more as you suggested! Thank you

I found someone suggested in a thread that it's easier to buy a rep watch and mod it from there. The model I (finally) intend to go for is 16014 or maybe 16234. As I want a Datejust and don't want to make things more complicated by using a Pie Pan dial and having to chop its feet. Also, being as inexperienced as I am and a girl who never really handle any tools in my entire life, I doubt my ability to put everything together. But I think I can remove dial and attach a new one. So I'm thinking of purchasing Silix rep and replace the dial with gen one. Then go on to replacing with gen crown, gen bracelet, and so on. Is it a good idea? Or will I face many complications as I do?

How do you tell if watch case is for eta 2824 or 2836??

Thank you for the reply! What I meant was is there any differences between a non quickdate and a quick date case. I just have no clue if a non quick date requires special case or not.... And thank you for the extra info on the movement. I think 2783 is better like you said in terms of bph. The problem is I already found hands, a case, basically almost everything for 2836 (guess maybe because it's easier to find). Now I'm trying to learn how to clip the feet of dial, the adapter / movement ring.... so hopeless -
Thank you so much for the reply. It seems that I've just asked something very silly. (yes 28mm dial should fit a case that accepts 28mm). Yes, I'm intending on using eta 2836 movement. I've seen many threads mentioning cutting the dial feet, but no one seems to mention how to do so... (or I might missed it) I wonder is it a clip to make it shorter or a clip to make it thinner? And for the dial dots, how can I know which size to choose from? Thank you so much in advance.

Hello all (again) Sorry for being such a pain in the butt by asking so many questions. Promise that once I gather enough knowledge (which would probably be no more than that of yours) I'll be sharing my knowledge as well. But for now, I have some questions... I am wondering if I could fit a gen Datejust 1601 dial into a 36mm made for ETA 2836 case? [intend to buy from Rafflesdial] And if so, will i need a spacer / movement ring to get everything into place? I found some threads about 1601 franken but couldn't get a hold of the writer. So, I really want your experienced guidance. Thank you so much in advance.

Hello, hope you don't mind, I'd like to join in as ask a question here so as not to create a new thread. If i were to build a 1601 datejust non quickset, presumably using the 2836 movement. Does the case need to a special one (apart from being a case for 2836) for "non quickset"? Or it can just be any case that'll fit the 2836? Thank you -
Thank you both for the reply! @HaydenM your build is marvellous

Hello all, Nice to meet you. This is my first thread on this site. After reading and gathering information, I'm interested in starting my own project to build a mod 1016 (is that too ambitious?). My objective is to build it for under $600. So I came up with two alternatives to build it and would like to ask you which direction should I take. First: Buy a rep 1016 - Asian 23J Automatic Movement - Solid316L case - Scratchproof sapphire - Deployant clasp I don't really like the dial so I think I'll: --> replace with yuki dial (but it says it'd only fit 1560/1570 or ETA 2824-2 / 2836. So I'm not sure about this) ---> or if possible can i replace the movement with the ETA 2824-2 (is it the same size as Asian 23J?) Second: Do everything from scratch - Yuki 1016 dial - Yuki 7206 bracelet - Seagull ETA 2824-2 movement For this direction I don't know where to get the case / bazel / crown... Please advice an amateur like me. Thank you so much in advance.
