  1. I like the one on the left.. But it seems it is HUGE and probably unwearable. And it is probably OK wearing a gen Egiziano in 60+ size but wearing a rep that big is ridicilous.

Where someone can find this watch? Don;t know anything about it. The right one is the XaMas made by Ennebi and sold by Strapmasters in US.

DSN as he told me is probably working on the homage RWC one. He is already selling their 1938A version :)

That one on the left is made by the same people Ennebi. It's a new line of thiers called the Titanic. I really like it. I don't have huge wrists but I wouldn't mind a 60mm+ rep at all. It's you skinny wrist guys that keep these models from being made :p

And strapmasters is not the only one who sells Ennebi watches in the US. There is a Ennebi USA now. And you can also get them from watches24seven (adeeos).

I wouldn't hold my breath on the DSN model. He said the same thing last year about this time.

  2. Ask and you will receive..

The watch is already in the production line from a rep dealer and it will finish and start selling beginning of May with normal rep price.

What watch are they repping? The Egiziano or this homage one?

I actually prefer this Egiziano homage watch, much more:

I know DSN was supposed to be working on a version of the Egiziano, but that was last year and he promised in a few weeks and never delivered. The hard part is finding a movement with the correct subdial spacing.

  3. Stop the Presses!

One of the coolest buckles I've ever seen (unfortunately, the guy who made it, SanDave, says it's sold out). That strap is SEXY.

Sandave did NOT make this buckle. It is made by a guy over at WUS forums. He is always making them , and fills custom order's all the time. The only thing is that they are sewn in so you have to get a strapmaker to put them in.

  4. I dunno if tootall has used Renapur or not. I started using Pecard's at tootall's suggestion and have been very pleased with it.

I have not used renapur so I can't comment on how well it works. It does look more like a lexol product though.

What made you unhappy about the Pecards? And what Pecards product did you get? And what are you putting it on?

  5. And here is my question - is it normal???? Are you guys wearing such straps now???

First off, how big is your wrist in inches?? That will determine a lot.

Secondly, I love thick straps. The SC one you have would be considered Nicole Richi skinny put up to my straps. I have built ones that are 10mm thick. The ones I wear on average are over 5mm thick. Maybe it's the goofy buckle that is doing it. And it also looks as if you got a size too long for your wrist as the buckle seems to lap over your wrist.

Is it normal to wear such thick straps? Probably not normal to the Panerai community as whole, as the majority of people love the OEM straps and the crap TC sells. So I wouldn't call it normal. But nothing beats personal taste, so wear what you like and don't get into any of the hype!

  6. Hey TooTall, :) no problem you are not being rude at all. Yes I do wear shoes, both sneakers and formal (when the occasion requires them). However its pretty hard to source leather-free decent trainers and shoes. I see straps as a luxury item rather than a necessesity, as others pointed out, I can wear the PAM on rubber or S/S, I have been doing some searching and found some carbon fiber straps with rubber backing. Also it is also possible to manufacture straps using materials that look and feel like leather, but are not.

So it's just leather in straps that you have a problem with? I am just not following the logic.

What if you did not know if the cow was killed for it's hide or meat? Would that suffice? I mean, I honestly don't know if the leather I use came from cows that were killed for their hides or meat.

  7. Yes I own both the SS strap, and also a rubber strap. By far the most comfortable is wearing either the rubber strap or leather. Yes I have taken a look at some carbon fiber straps, but most of them have leather on the underside :(

Hey not to be rude or anything, but do you wear shoes?

  8. Just want to understand the material's property, that's all. Tootall, do you know what type of machine is used to sew these straps? I do not know much about sewing machines, but do know that the sewing machine motor has to be powerful enough to handle piercing through 2 layers of leather. Therefore I think it may have to be a special kind, but maybe not. Thanks for the reply

I have no idea about what type or model of sewing machine that Greg has. I only handstitch. Furthermore, why are you wanting to know? unless you plan to go into strap making as a business it shouldn't matter. Is that what you are asking for?

I don't mean to come across rude, I just want to know the motive behind your questions.

Lastly, the product that most closely resembles what the mass produced and machine made straps (TC) have on their edges is a product called Cova Color. You can mix and match to get the shade(s) you want and it goes on fine. The raised edges problem is due more to the edge of the leather not being "clean" to begin with.

  9. Thanks, I will try it. Is it water resistant? I see many of the products in the page are water based.

Nice strap, what machine do you use for the stitching?

What do you need it to be water resistant for?

Also, I am glad that you can see too that Greg is no longer "handmaking" his straps. HE is not even making them himself anymore period. They are sewn on machine and built by someone else.

  10. This sounds very intricate, and not a little dangerous, :sss:!

I think I'll stick to the rubbing alcohol and then using your suggestion, of baking it in the sun. At least I hope that's what you suggested. ;)

    Thank you!

Victoria, I am serious when I said " you have probably used too many conditioners for the strap to get back to anything useful". I guess at this point you feel you have nothing to lose, but unless you want a strap that is toally crap, do not do the rubbing alcohol method. I don't know where that information for leather came from, but it's incorrect. That will only make matters worse.

The only way to get the smells out of the strap would take a very long time and even then the strap's quality will have faded to nothing.

If you MUST wear this strap, the only thing I can recommend at this point would be to mask it with perfumes or lotions. Not on the leather itself, but around your wrists areas. If that doesn't work, I'm afraid you have to chalk this one up to experience.

  11. What lexol product did you use?

And to be honest, you have probably used too many conditioners for the strap to get back to anything useful. Conditioners add oils back in, they DO NOT clean leather. Cleaning leather is about floating dirt particles until they can be retrieved. All those conditioners have added a mixture of oils back to the leather. Which in turn captures the scents and does let them go. You would first have to remove all the oils (or a large amount of them) then you could clean it. Otherwise you are just adding to the problem.

  12. Lanikai is a great guy from all the experiences I have had with him. We have talked at lengths about watches, cigars and bodybuilding. I always appreciate his candid reviews and the promptness he has at giving them. I don't know of any others that are reviewing the models he is, and I appreciate him doing it the way he does.

I believe he has covered all questions here in a gracious way (much better than I could have done). It truly sucks that people feel the need to go behind ones back to say these things. Surely we are all big boys and girls here, so why not ask the person yourself?

  13. I'll feed you baby bird:

    1. To OEM buckles do, but many (almost every) gen Panerai owner changes out thier strap and gets aftermarket buckles to fit, with and without inscription.

    2. Personal preference. Deployment strap are uncomfortable IMO. The GPF is the classic and the Pre-V is just that Pre-V.

    3. These are the lengths. Here is a good description of them: http://www.paneristi.com/straps/howbig.html

    4. This one you are going to ghave to do on your own. Search for the weekly wrist shots and posts that have the word 'pics' in the title.

    5. How much you are looking to spend is probably the major factor. Price is always an issue, unless you are living off someone else's money. So get a price range and go from there.
