  1. Thanks for the input fellas. No need to quote anything, you were all very helpful. Common sense mixed with some experience goes a long way. My biggest concern was whether it's a big scam like bidz.com.... I'm still trying to find someone who sells parts only, there are some dials on there but no bands at all.

Pix...maybe PM me and tell me who your fav. couple of dealers are on there?

    thanks

  2. I say go with the Steelfish, it has alot going on on the dial so it may repel non watch fanatics to look too close, and a breitling makes a tasteful statement as well. It's not too flashy and might just blend into the mix if you want to be subtle and classy at the same time. If you want flashy whip out a diamond encrusted platinum masterpiece and reflect light glints off of it into your new co-workers eyes...j/k :p

  3. You know, unemployment brings out hours of boredom and web surfing. I've seen Ioffer many times, but finally took the time to browse thru it for a while and there's lots of stuff going on there cheap, but how safe is it say compared to ebay? Tons of reps there, garbage mostly I'm sure but at least its allowed unlike on e bay. Nobody seems to have much feedback, but some of the names are the same as others that I've seen around. Like shawncivic, who keeps joining watch forums and trying to sell his "12 watches" from his personal collection. I don't get how he gets away with it. I don't think I would buy a gen on there, but maybe a rep and some rep/gen parts. I just don't know if I'd actually even get anything. I do know I like the fact that I can lowball people :)

So the question is, anyone here ever been totally gypped on ioffer?

I'm gonna do some googling and see who owns it and whatever.

  4. If you dont mind a rep dial, a day-date is just as easily done as a datejust.

It is just that daydate cases use precious metals, which are expensive ;) and not easy to source.

    Regards,

Thanks, so how close are the daydate dials in terms of window alignment? Maybe there is some kind of overlay that can be made for eta.....

  5. Hey guys, I've been searching around for a while, and I haven't seen any franken day-date projects. Whats the deal? Is it too hard to get the 2 discs to line up with the windows on the dial maybe? Any gen part for this watch is expensive compared to other models since they are all solid gold, but it does seem like a fun project. Having cancelled my frankenjust while it was 99% done I hesitate to start something else at a time like this but not having something to tinker with is really driving me nuts.

Thinking back on the thread about the tudor sub, I'm wondering if maybe a good bet would be to buy a beat up, no band tudor day date, send the dial off for refinishing with rolex on it and buying a pres bracelet, but maybe thats too much.

I suppose the hardest part using a gen dial and case would be getting the day window aligned and having the right size font as well.

Lets start throwing some ideas around, maybe we'll figure it out when I get back to work.

  6. Well, some of you may remember the fiasco about my clasp on this thing, and I thank everyone who offered me help. If you didn't read that, I closed a drawer on it and bent it out of true so that it wouldn't close. I emailed Josh, told him how I broke it, and asked him how much he wanted for the parts. He had me email him some pictures, and then just sent me some stuff for free. It just got here today, and he sent me an entire bracelet, Not the Noob bracelet with hollow links but a solid center link job, which I actually like better because of the weight. With all the links, it weighs out at 141 grams on the watch, which is about 6 grams heavier than a gen. Unfortunately, the spring bar holes don't line up with the lugs so I'm going to have to pull this apart and switch them with the old ones. Thats not really a problem though. At least all my band concerns are over now.

Now the next thing. Yesterday, I was playing fetch with my dog, Digger, and he got excited and tried to get the toy before I threw it and chomped down right on my watch. I saw a black ring flipping through the air and guess what that was? Bezel insert. Picked it up and it's all bent up now. I ordered one from Raymondleejewelers on the bay, I've seen a couple posts regarding that seller but I can't honestly remember what they said. I just hope I don't have to wait too long.

  7. I asked this dude on ebay where his watch came from, trying to get a feel of how good a rep it is and the dude answers me this:

I list these at replica prices even though my supplier list them as the real Rolex. I do not have these in stock because I am taking them on a consignment basis. The only photo I currently have of this watch is the one that is posted.

After a few have been sold and if they proove out to be the real thing the price will probably go up.

    Thanks

    Crai* (name obscured for anonymity)

Ya, sure. I better buy it right now.

item 300163422023 if anyone wants a peek. It looks pretty good but the bezel insert is wrong, as always.

  8. supposedly a vintage GMT, shouldnt it have pointed cg's? http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/jwl/446723553.html

you would think if someone were serious about selling a $5500 gen, they would at least invest some time in a

    good pic or 2 http://chicago.craigslist.org/nch/jwl/447029941.html

    I'll give this guy $1.25 http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/jwl/446265679.html

maybe I should start selling noobmariners on there for 225....ha...j/k My paranoia wouldnt allow that.

  9. Thanks, I forgot about that site. I came across this watch while trying to source some eta copy movements in china, they have an ok james bond too, but I'm not sure about these people yet, oh and she says she can make me some dials too so I may take a chance.

They also tell me they have the YM II already? is the gen even on the market yet?
