  1. I'm not sure if I want to even link to this site, but they do have some of the nuttiest watches I have ever seen. I posted a pic of one of the crazier ones on another post, but I'm putting it and some more on this one.

Lets see some of the funny phonies you guys have come across on the web.

The following "treasures" range from 39 to 49 USD

canal street has better subs than this:

    Non-date "datejust" Awesome

    anti magnetic moonphase:

My fav so far, you probably saw it already though.

    wtf.jpg

    Now lets see some more

  2. In order to copy say, a rolex movement, they would not only have to reverse engineer and copy the movement, but they would almost have to copy the factory as well. I'm guessing the asian eta copies may have been done on the so called "3rd shift" originally, but then moved to an actual factory later. There is a higher demand for eta copies than rolex copies, the only consumer for a fake rolex movement would be a rep manufacture, and compared to the numerous generic watch companies out there, that is a small number. I don't think it would be time worthy or even economical to go through all of that just to please the people in our world. I would rather enjoy if somebody were to be able to pull it off though.

  3. supposedly a vintage GMT, shouldnt it have pointed cg's? http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/jwl/446723553.html

you would think if someone were serious about selling a $5500 gen, they would at least invest some time in a

    good pic or 2 http://chicago.craigslist.org/nch/jwl/447029941.html

    I'll give this guy $1.25 http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/jwl/446265679.html

this guys watches suck and they keep going up in price http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/jwl/446318851.html

  4. I see, since I never saw one in person I didn't know that it rotated, it just looked like you could see the mechanics thru the dial, but knowing that it actually rotates makes it more interesting. No wonder they're so much more than others. I read The Zigmeister's post of how it took 10hrs to assemble one, wow! I guess it's something that you hope works for a long time since it would be expensive to fix. Now I want one. Dang.

I'm guessing the low priced ones like this orkina are mock tourbillon? ebay item #170157948646

  5. Ok here's the deal, I'm hocking a bunch of stuff right now, but before I put my eta 2824 on the auction block I'm wondering if I should just put it in my beginmariner with asian 2813. Problem is that I accidentally sent the datwheel off the 2824 with a bunch of other 2824's a while ago, so now I don't have one. I know the datewheel from the 2824 won't fit on the 2836, but will the wheel from the 2813 fit on the 2824? Plus its the asian, not the genuine eta (2813). I know the 2472 wheel fits on the 2824 but only upside down, I have one of those but I don't want to go that route.

I guess my main question is should I bother? I don't really like this 2813 because it is super loud and the rotor only winds in one direction.

  6. I put my watch on right when I get up in the morning. I feel nutty without it. The only times I'm not wearing a watch is when I'm sleeping or doing something that may damage it. I also only wear mechanical, for some reason I have something against quartz. I'm sure there are good quartz watches out there but I think for the most part people who wear quartz daily are 1 step higher on the ladder than people who are anti-watch. Not sure what ladder that is though, and I really don't understand people who never wear a watch.

  7. What do you do and what state are you in; I am connected in certain circles, and would be willing to get your name around if applicable.

Thanks Tenacious, I live in the NW burbs of chicago, IL. I was in dispatch at the job, but I've been successful in sales so thats what I'm looking at right now. Maybe I should apply at an AD

  8. So thats what that means. You might be right. Everytime someone at work wants a watch, a phone or a car they ask me. I had my hands in all kinds of things and it was known. But I also had the highest salary (on the shift) and my position WAS becoming rather useless. New building, new semi-automated system, that kind of thing. But, since the owner is my father's best friend and my father is the 2nd in command, I thought they would just move me somewhere else when it got to the point where I didn't need to be where I was anymore. Unfortunately, They also fired 7 other people, so a position change wasn't really in the cards. That reminds me, I wanted to use my boss's reef tank for TWP's photo contest, how long is it going on for, when is the deadline? I'm still welcome there, just not welcome to work.

  9. Those things are very flimsy and often get bent or broken. I cannot offer you a job and it is difficult to tell from your photos, but I think I have a replacement clasp assembly in my parts box that may fit. Can you flip the clasp over to the other side & give me the 4 or 5 digit number to the right of the Rolex insignia?

Ah, did you say you have '7 or 8 cars'? I think I see the fly in the ointment..

Its 93250, but does that even matter on the reps? I asked josh to quote me on the link that attatches to that flip and the whole buckle so I Don't have to mess with anything but a screw and a springpin. I have another clasp with 62523h actually, rep also, and it wont fit this right either. I put a solid link band on this thing too already, it 135.5 grams, exact with the gen. Thought I was done with this thing 'til the drawer. Leaving it on the nightstand before i smash something else.

Yup, 7 or 8 cars. None fancy, just what I do for some side cash since I have a friend at the dealer who sells the trade ins to me before they ship them all out to the auction. Don't know what fly in the ointment means BTW. Let me try to list them off:

1995 Chevy Blazer Michael Jordan Edition (what the heck is that anyway)

    1989 Chevy Celebrity (Paid $5)

    1992 Toyota Camry

    1995 toyota Camry

    1996 Dodge Avenger

    1998 Ford windstar

    2000 Ford Contour Sport

I'll be OK for a while, The thing I was sad about when I started this thread was the fact that I have to give up a hobby that I love, it's too much to be playing with right now. The deal with the job sucks, but that's life. I was just so close to completing my project, all I needed to do was source 1 part for the date mechanism on the 2836 and then bam! I just can't justify continuing at this point. Plus, once I am gainfully employed again and getting a steady salary, I can start over and next time it might be easier getting the parts and whatnot that I need since I had to learn the hard way. It will be faster and I'll probably get it done for less too.

Just came across this pic on a site: What is that supposed to be. Very Interesting. Says Datejust on it. No date though. I am amused now. $39.99

  10. Sincere regrets and hugs about the lay-off, llsteve80. The US economy is percolating, despite some ideas it was going towards its usual end-of-decade readjustment, but lay-offs are perpetual sadly.

Small comfort for you, but you'll get something. There's always something out there. :)

Best of luck on your Franken, and don't give up hope you'll finish it, though it might go on the Bay!

Thanks V, it's already on the Bay :p . So is a bunch of other random stuff. I still have 7 or 8 cars left too that I can sell so I'll be Ok for a while.

  12. I am really sorry to hear about the lay-off. Been there, done that (more than once). Hang in there, something will come along (it always does).

Can you post a clear photo of your clasp and bracelet? Maybe I can help.

    Thanks

Its the pin in the Flip lock, picture isnt clear but i have it circled. You can also see how the inner part of the clasp sticks out when closed. I know the flip lock got really bent when I closed the drawer on it. I have a plain clasp with not rolex stuff on it that I can throw on, but I don't really want to.

  13. Just when I had 95% of the parts I needed for my sweet frankenjust project accumulated, I get laid off of my job of 9 years. I feel shocked. Guess it's time for an ebay firesale! (secretly hoping it doesnt sell) And just to make things worse, I slam my submariner into the drawer and bend the clasp all to wack. I emailed Josh to see how much for a new one. I kind of have it wearable now, but its out of true so the safety clasp sticks so hard to the clasp that I need to pry it off. HA! Serves me right. Figures. I was just starting to get that slowpoke at palo alto micro motivated enough to actually sell me some stuff too. Curses!

    Side note: Anyone hiring? :p

EDIT 10/15: I have decided to go back to school, full time. Hoping to start fall semester. I'll probably be the oldest person there but it's better late than never. I'll do some part time until then.

    RIP Frankenjust!

  14. Thanks everyone. I don't know where I got the idea about that. I knew panerai had 6497's for example, but I thought I recalled someone saying how some dealer was selling a bunch of reps with the panerai movement and they were speculating where it all came from. Maybe I'll check the old forum I was on and see if it was there. If I find it, I'll post a link, I'm liking the marina militare more and more and thinking about grabbing one from someone. I like the vintage with the Brevet crown on it.

  15. I hope you didn't pay yet. I'd bet the amount of money the auction ended at on the watch being a rep. He "padded" his feedback rating with cheap junk and it probably only cost him 5 bucks to do so. All digital items, etc. If I was in your position I would rather take a hit by getting neg feedback for not paying than send that scammer 1500 and get a $200 rep.

  16. Hey alligoat we meet again! R-W-G, Ebay and here. I'm tempted to bore out the hole in the rep crown tube with the hope that the threads will be the same on both the rep crown and gen crown. I can't try it because the spring tube is too thick to fit. I do have a spare tube in case it doesn't work but I want it for a franken project. Oh ya, the frankenjust is making a comeback. I made a oyster perpetual out of my parts b/c I didn't have a good date overlay but now I do, so I'm just waiting on parts. Also building a YM for about 50 USD total cost. That one might be a month though.

  17. Caseback on the left is more accurate. Boy, they have the CGs pretty good on these stock. The crown is way too thick I believe, that's the biggest problem.

Who did you get this from?

    Cheers.

I got it from perfectclones, pc-80108.com. You're right about that crown, holding it up to the gen it looks huge. I got the thing all the way flush now, at least. The stem was too long.

By the way, what is that beautiful watch in your avatar? It sort of looks like a 6062 stelline....but not sure.
