  1. Try Trevor on the 5th gen although I think he is on extended Chinese NY holidays atm. Puretime has the VC, getting good feedback, very good for a basic dressy watch, although it is a rehash of an old model. The new portofinos are nice and also the AP RO look a decent dressy addition.

  2. Can't stand these 'brands' tbh, RM is kind of like Dewitt, maybe not as 'out there'.... I know they create some very advanced and very well made watches and do amazing things with movements, but can't help thinking they are just another niche brand who hire some very advanced master watchmakers/designers to create obscure designs and over price them primarily to get the attention of extremely rich people. Bit like Hublot, but on steroids.

  3. I like the basic versions, @ 40mm and 10mm thick it is back to more realistic sizes and will fit much better as an all-rounder than the older ingenieur, ..it's also very reppable with closed caseback and 2892.

....  but they made all the others including the ceramic @ around 46mm? wtf is that about? It is like one step forward, two steps back?

  4. Be careful with these railmasters, as Andy says the old one is nowhere to be seen nowadays, but there are many poor quality or other variations about (ala watcheden one above) Tony will get you a railmaster no problem, it just might not be the older version with thin numberals/AR/better case set/gen alligator etc.

.....on the other hand, if they are back in production and Tony can source them then let us know.

  5. Cheers wiesn, good to hear about the quality of the alligator vs oem. I'm seriously tempted, but again Camille Fournet are so popular and also sell straps somewhat reasonably priced (expensive though with custom addons).

Do you have any old pics of the Kaufmann alligator you have?

  6. Anybody hear of Kaufmann straps? They are a top brand strap maker up there with Camille Fournet/abp/Sirtoli etc and used to make oem Lange straps. I heard of them before but didn't pay much attention, but heard recently that they make oem IWC straps and can be bought online, at least some of them anyway, pilot chronos/marks/portofinos.

Just wondering if anyone had any feedback. They aren't cheap, but quality looks outstanding, some are available here:

  7. I'm not sure what scratched it, it wasn't an AP offshore  :) , just mentioning that offshore tools shop on the forums stocks that diamond paste also if anyone needed some. Scratch was on a gen AT, bought it with the description that is was a 'minor' nick and a few select nicely shadowed shots saying it would easily come out, granted it was cheap so I went with it. Bigger scratch than I thought, looks like I'll need to sit down for a while and get into this process.

Thanks for the pics and writeup though, it got me motivated :)

  8. If andrews/josh service is a bit off you might find puretimes not much better, no problem with them just the team can be a bit slow and careless at times. Hard to say, was talking to trevor :) the other day and he is off soon until the 10 of feb. You could try toro, sead, hont or marvellousreplica or others like king mary, all have good competitive prices on the PO atm.

Good luck with the search, best thing to do is to mass email all the dealers from the forums and see who is cheapest and responds promptly.
