  1. Yeah possibly, quality does seem to vary from strap to strap and batch to batch, a bit more than other strap makers such as peter or ekamon.

Here is one, pics thanks to kutio vs the watchboys (watch boys is strap not on the watch, better cut and cheaper imo)

...good to see more strap makers on board though, hope he keeps up the good work.

  2. Yeah he does some very nice stuff, but can be hit and miss, some of the offerings were outstanding for the price and seemed like one off gems, others not the best cuts, stitching or finishing. Examine closely before buying. Still pretty nice for the prices. He seems to have dropped off in production since earlier releases?

  3. This could be something, but why the limited edition?

I'm not sure either tbh, seems one of the least likely variations of the new AT to rep. Although knowing how BP release stuff it could be the first of many colours, cue, blue, grey, white, black, two tone versions showing up over the next few days/weeks :) ....we never get much info from BP. It does look pretty good, I'm interested in seeing it, we'll have to wait until the prices show up to see if it's a good deal or not. Still good to see something on the AT front!

  4. All the dealers have it atm, most are @$298 but check out Sead who has it @ $268. Keep an eye out for some of them with crooked markers during QC, they are improving, but slowly. Hopefully future batches will correct it fully. Otherwise it is a great watch and if you can get a one with a good dial then its a cracker.

As for the noob CPO, I'm at a loss with this, should've been out in June, but here we are near October and still no release, everything seems seriously delayed but even at that, it cant be much longer??

    Lol, Classic!

Oh yeah the watch, personally I was holding out for this, went to order 3.5, no stock, then 4 came along I thought wtf, then 4.1, went to order, only swiss @ + $1900 or whatever their upcharge for true swiss is  :), and now this V5, I'm sure there is more to come, I think I'll wait a month or two, we should be on V6.1 for xmas. Decorated rotor behind the closed caseback, they're really pulling out all the stops for this one :D

...hard to say really, the pams 243 V2/111 V3 are always rated, the 4.1 diver also. Lots of interesting reps, the laureus ingy and V2 mark xvi/xvii are very good, as is the jlc nsd. The noob Explorer II is good although lacks a few finishing touches. TC needs gen inserts at least. Lots of good older stuff also, Ebel 1911/SOSF/ Slevin/Ploprof/Seawolf but some needed mods, lume/AR etc.

I'd go for the diver 4.1, it is probably as close 1:1 to gen as we have got so far.

  7. Sorry to hear you have issues with this, honestly, I expected these 42mm crowns/tubes to be hit and miss on initial release of this watch. The 45mm versions appear to be better.

You could ask the dealer to take the watch back and ask for another. Alternatively you could ask him to send you a new crown and tube and get a watchmaker to install. Truthfully, no easy option with this, it is a bit of luck of the draw on some reps like this one, some will be very smooth, others will cause problems. I'd personally nearly just buy a generic crown and tube (available on ofrei/cousinuk) that fits the dimensions and install it. Not the most accurate way to go about things, but at least you'd have full functionality.

A few questions, is there any screw down before it stops? i.e. is there some functionality of the crown at least screwing partially?

Is there anything gunking up the tube thread or crown, lint, dirt or dust? If you have some functionality (some screw down) I wouldn't worry about it if the watch passes water resist test.?

Try cleaning tube threads first and see if it improves. You may also be suffering from a badly cut stem, any problem winding as you are screwing in crown. A watchmaker should be able to help if it is a small issue like these.

  8. Just imo here but I would go with the ceramic in terms of those two, with reservations though. The V5 PO is a pretty average rep out of the box, it was good 3 years ago when it was released, but by rep standards these days it falls well short in terms of AR, lume, bracelet, pearl, crown/tube which has a strong tendency to strip etc. The good thing about it is it had a 1:1 caseset so was a great model for frankening with gen parts which are readily available from ofrei/cousinsuk etc.

The ceramic on the other hand is a recent release, and has improvements over the old out of the box, but still has some issues. It definitely has better lume, AR, bracelet than the old which instantly make it pop more, but does suffer from some half assed detailing on the dial/bezel etc. The bezel numbers have a tendency to fade, the crowns don't seem too great although a little better than the old V5. The 45mm ceramic/LM is a little better in some regards...better dial etc.

In terms of 42mm the best PO at the minute is the new 42mm LMPO, which is a rep of the older closed caseback limited edition version. Great case, crown, bezel, tube, AR, superlume make it a step above the others. Only issue seems to be a tendency for crooked markers/logos on the dial, that is a basic qc error and is up to the buyer to reject until they are offered one they are pleased with. Outstanding rep though, if they fix the silly dial issue it will be considered a superrep.

    Hope this helps a little.

In fact, if really looking for the old standard PO and the glossy LM isn't your cup of tea, I would suggest buying the new LMPO anyway, and find yourself an old V5 dial hands, bezel insert (or better yet gen dial/hands and modded or gen insert) and transplant them into the LMPO. With that you have an instant great old PO with great AR, bracelet, crown/tube, He valve etc at a much cheaper price than modding the V5.

  9. I'm the same, have tried hard to like them, just can't get on with them, even the ones I did try I attempted to vary the design, 112, 292, to 026K to 029M, (as much as can be done with Pams) in a vain attempt so that they might just click eventually. They never did! They don't sit on my wrist, always look massive, I don't have a particularly big wrist @ 7" but still, the pam lugs are well within the edges of the wrist....they should work but they always look odd, so much unnecessary space on the dials. I won't be trying one again unless they do a 40mm or 42mm gen and a good rep is made.

I always take the pish out of them on the forums, it's great that they are popular, but the rep forums have (or had until APs became the trend) a sort of frenzy about them that is not seen in the gen market. They are popular no doubt and repped well which is great, but it's almost as if you must have a pam in the watchbox (or there's something wrong with you ;) ) whereas irl (lol!) I guess maybe 1 or 2 out of 10 watch fans have any interest in pams. Maybe I am wrong but I suspect that a lot of the popularity on rep forums is fashion/fad buying due to being perceived for a long time as some the best superreps at a reasonable price, rather than love of the design.

"Roll up, roll up, get an identical replica to a $5K watch for $250, even though they are damn ugly, you still gotta love em!" ;)

  10. Welcome Mr_Slippery, great name :)

Some nice reps of your turns-ons available atm, check out the new 15400 Royal Oak, also the new non-chrono Portofinos are great. We won't mention L&S but a superrep JLC Reverso is on the horizon soon and the recent DSSD ain't bad, although not my cup of tea!

You'll do well here, enjoy the forums!
