I was just in Naples on a cruise, had heard the same thing so wore a gen - went across to the island of Capri, lot's a stores selling Rep's so I think the rumor is either not true or the rules have changed somewhat. Interesting, Italy is a lot more strict I suppose, and honestly I dont want to take a chance. I know that Italian customs are very strict and they are very strict on what comes into the country from china. A lot of chinese ebay sellers, selling legitimate goods don't post to Italy. You can't make, you can't wear, you can't sell, you can't buy,... but it's also true that the police, finance guard or carabinieri don't control every person and they like to catch "big fishes", surely not an occasional buyer or a tourist (they can do, but they don't). I had to change out the Velcro Strap though with a Panatime Alligator Embossed leather one. Also with an Italian history. It is a different story to set up a rep trading activity, but do not worry in wearing anything. This is the country of freedom (maybe even too much ...)
