red Posted September 18, 2009 Report Posted September 18, 2009 This came in today, and here are my initial impressions. Keep in mind I had a 028 that was worked on by SSSurfer and had a Finepics datewheel, so my expectations are quite high. 1. Very good crown guard. The pin was flattened by DSN. I think it could be a bit more flat, but overall I am glad that I do not have to do this mod myself. 2. Exceptional dial. This dial is very well made, and everything is really crisp. Kudos for DSN for taking the effort to consult some of our communities finest. 3. Date Font, needs improvement. I do not know if I got a bad date, but it is definitely thinner then the one I got from Finepics. Maybe it was SSSurfer's cyclops, but the date is definitely thinner then I would expect. I would need to see a watch modded with Leo's datewheel to see if his work warrants his price, but for now the datewheel is a large improvement over the ETA. 4. Crown. Not bad, could be better, but I can live with it. 5. Special thanks to Wolf and Mickey Padge's photos. And thanks to Mickey for answering all my PMs regarding the watch. 6. Photos are unedited, and have only been cropped. On to the pictures (I am nuts over the datefont and took most of the pictures for the purpose of comparing the date is various lightings and angles):
Mickey Padge Posted September 19, 2009 Report Posted September 19, 2009 I am glad you found my post helpful, nice pictures too, thanks for sharing! Good to see DSN is flattening the crown pins now, maybe it needs a little bit of a cape cod polish though, seems to have a brushed finish? Sweet looking strap, enjoy your new watch!
Samurai Posted September 19, 2009 Report Posted September 19, 2009 Very nice. Does the PR indicator move all the way?
red Posted September 19, 2009 Author Report Posted September 19, 2009 Thanks Mick. The PR is currently full, Samurai.
Mickey Padge Posted September 19, 2009 Report Posted September 19, 2009 Thanks Mick. The PR is currently full, Samurai. I think he means how far does the arrow point, when fully charged, mine hits just past the 4 on the PR measure
Samurai Posted September 20, 2009 Report Posted September 20, 2009 Yes....cause Mattuss's watch (over @ RWG) that he got from DSN ... the PR indicator does'nt go past appx. the 35hr mark.
red Posted September 20, 2009 Author Report Posted September 20, 2009 Mine goes pass the 40 just a smidge so I guess it represents 42 hours. Timed it with my gen Omega Planet Ocean and its +/- 3 seconds.
slickdick Posted September 20, 2009 Report Posted September 20, 2009 (edited) Nice!, i've got the same one coming. It will be my first Panerai. Still curious if i like it in real live though. Edited September 20, 2009 by slickdick
