What tools needed to regulate some watches

I have 2 reps from Josh's site, a datejust and a Bell&Ross BR02. The BR02 is running a little slow and I was thinking about trying to regulate it myself but I am not sure what tools I need.

I saw a "16-Piece Deluxe Watch Opener Tool Kit Repair Pin Remover" kit from amazon for $10 that includes "This set of 16 watch repair tools includes: 1 watchband link pin remover, 1 watchband holder, one spring bar remover, 3 Pin punches, 1 metal and plastic hammer, 1 case knife, 3 slotted screwdrivers, 2 Phillips screwdrivers, 1 case wrench, 1 pair of long nose pliers with side cutters, and 1 pair of stainless steel tweezers"

and a "Jaxa Type Waterproof" Watch Case Wrench with case for $10.

am I looking in the right direction? Thanks.

Well you are on the right track as far as the type of tools which may be required, however I think you may find the quality of some of those tools a little low.

A 1/2 way decent screwdriver set costs more than that kit, and the Jaxa style opener comes in about 20 different grades....I would suspect that one to be at the lower end of the scale.

I think just about everyone who starts to learn the basics of repair, starts with something like these, and soon find how inadequate they are and upgrade (maybe 2 or 3 times) to better quality tools.

As offshore points out, those are tools best suited for scratching your case and making you swear.

They are the right kind of tools but not the right quality .. there are merchants here in this Community forum who sell proper tools for not too much money. Just take a look at the merchants area.

Hi,

One of those merchants just happens to be me!whistling.gif

I am Watch Bitz, when I put on my suppliers hat!

I have been talking with my guy in China about this very subject, and we are putting together a kit right now,.All top quality tools, it will have-

1) 1 X Dust blower

2) 2 X Venus tweezers

3) Screwdriver set- 5 pieces, The best one going around, bar none.

4) Pin remover cw/ block, or maybe a pin pusher, still to be decided.

5) 1 X good hammer

6) ! X 4x loupe - Japanese, with wire attachment

7) 1 X Jaxa Pro caseback tool.

8 1 X Dust cover.

9) 1 X movement holder.

10) 1 X watch caseholder.

All supplied in a carry pouch.

We are also contemplating including a metal cleaner/refurbisher, and maybe a sapphire polishing kit, and Polywatch for acrylic polishing.

Our target price for this is somewhere around U$60.00 and we are still to make a couple of decisions to achieve this.

However we will get moving now, and see how quickly it can be put together. I'm guessing 3-4 weeks before they are available.

I stress that these will all be top quality items, which will be useable for many years.

Will keep you and the members updated on this project.

Sounds very nice, too. But will you post to the UK?!

I learnt from bitter experience that a good set of scrwedrivers are an absolute must for any watch maintenance work.

Regulating watches is usually pretty easy, I've done it a few times.

say, Offshore will you carry TYMC/MTG machines in your store?

It will surprise you to know, that the original TYMC items have now been copied!unsure.gif

So there are varying qualities available of these.

We are aiming to only carry top class equipment, and right now, a gen TYMC unit is considerably dearer than the reps. ( It is a far better unit however)

And the reps have a chequered performance history! ( sounds familiarhuh.gif)

Interestingly, I had a lengthy discussion just last night, with my man on the ground, about this very subject.

With the $$ moving, & the Chinese chasing it, the price of one of the "good" units, means we would be smashed in our offer price, by the clones. (again sounds familiar) So last night, I declined an offer of some products.... we also have to factor the "Minimum Order Quantity" here. The only really useful model, (must have amplitude) would have to sell close to or upwards of U$700, and I struggle to see how I can outlay the ( not inconsiderable) $$ to buy a bunch, right now.

So, not right now, we will continue to monitor whether the clones can offer better performance, or the "gen" makers can build a better mousetrap, cheaper!

I can always get one for those who want the best, but we are making decisions about many items we will offer, and are excluding lesser quality lines.

Anything can be sourced, we just won't offer or sell inferior lines.
