plaifender Posted November 26, 2009 Report Share Posted November 26, 2009 Have an asian "21j" PO that I can't set! The watch will run if given a few shakes with no problem. The problem is when I unscrew the crown and pull it out the hack doesnt engage and the second hand continues to move. At this point you can turn the crown but obviously it doesn't have any affect on the min/hour hands.. What could be the problem here?? Any of you gear heads ever had this happen? If so, can I fix it myself or should i just drop the dough for a new 2824 and call it a day? I don't wanna pay to get 21j fixed if it costs less to get a new one on ofrei for example (saw several chinese movements on ofrei for around $30usd, even though i'm not sure which one would be the most apropriate for this watch.). Or maybe i'll just get a new 2824-2 and have someone qualified drop it in...? Anyone have any advice? -ry (p.s. Redwatch... if you read this.. i haven't forgot about our convo... Is there someting a novice like myself could do? (the most i've done to my movements in the past are adjust the timing lever to make watches run faster/slower.. but that's about the extent of it.. I've never done it myself, but I believe that if someone knows what they're doing, and could sufficiently strip the movement, it's probably quite easy to re-align the parts/levers correctly. The problem, is being able to strip the movement sufficiently to access them. If you'd have to get a watch-smith to do the work, it might be more cost-effective to simply swap the movement entirely Best of luck [Edit to add] On another note, did you ever get round to trying that deoderant from the Mercadona? Do the $15 DG2813 movements come lubed? or are they still just another accident waiting to happen? I'm guessing that's what most of the 21j movements are already..? I believe they do, but I'm sure I read that it is better if the movement comes in a sealed foil pack rather than just a plastic shield hmm... I'll consider all options...
