Bezel Color on GMT II Ceramic

collector

Recommended Posts

I am very interested in diving into a GMT II Ceramic from PT, my only concern is the color of the numbers on the Bezel, I have seen complaints here from other members as the color being a gray rather than white, my question is, has this issue been resolved? are the current one sold closer to the color on the gen or is it still gray? and last, is it hard to replace with a gen or aftermarket that matches closer to the gen? I would appreciate advise from members.

I've handled the gen before I received my rep.. the colour of the genuine is not white nor gray.. I can descibe it as the colour of white ash off a cigar..not the dark grey ash that I have seen some reps with..you may want to check all the dealers to see if all the inserts are the same..

like the DSSD rep the V3 was too dark grey and the Ultimate now is the correct colour

here is one pic of the gen..

I have one, and the insert number color is very close to the genuine. It is the latest edition (as of about a month ago) Comparing mine side by side with a genuine, it's a really close rep. the only real giveaway is the lack of cyclops AR on the Rep is a glaring defect and a fault that anyone with knowledge of the genuine would pick up instantly, in any type of direct bright light. Hopefully some solution to this is possible. I would replace my crystal with a genuine in a heartbeat if I could source one.

My GMTIIC is from the initial run & the insert colors are close enough that I would not be unable to ID my watch as a rep based on the insert without being able to make a direct side-by-side comparison with a gen. And, even then, I am not sure I would know which is which based on the insert colors.

As to the cyclops AR, I continue to disagree with those who say this is a glaring or obvious tell. I replaced my crystal with a gen (which has AR below the cyclops) & unless the watch is viewed in just the right light & at just the right angle, you cannot tell whether the cyclops is ARd or not. GMTIIC reps are routinely posted on TZ & I do not believe that even 1 has been called out because it was missing AR below the cyclops. On the other hand, the easy way to ID these reps is by the misalignment (& laser etching as opposed to engraving) of the ROLEXROLEXROLEX around the inner vertical flange of the case around the dial. I have never seen a GMTIIC rep that gets this right.

@ Freddy,

My problem is I'm in the operating room all day with bright overhead lights. I seem to get a whole lot of reflections, almost like the light intensifies the reflections and it makes the date wheel hard to see.I don't have that problem with any of my watches with AR coated crystals. I agree with you, It would take a side by side comparison to tell the difference.

Do you have a source for the genuine crystals, as I would like to replace mine with a genuine if possible.

Thanks

Arthur

Unless the watch is at the correct angle relative to both the lights & the viewer, you are not likely to see the AR (or lack of it). 90% of the time, the gen cyclops on my watch looks the same as the rep cyclops did. In fact, neither of the 2 watchmakers (both with active Rolex parts accounts & working within the Rolex service network) I contacted in my search for a gen crystal were even aware of the AR on the GMTIIC (or any other Rolex model).

No. Mine came by way of a return favor from a watchmaker friend.

To be clear for anyone else who PMs me - I cannot source additional GMTIIC crystals.
