Just had an idea on how to change an 088 dial into a 161, without messing up the rest of the dial.

I was just thinking on how I was going to go about removing the extra hash marks from the outer edge of the 088 dial, in order to make it into a 161 dial. The biggest worry was what removing them would do to the underlying black dial finish.

Well, I realized that a better way to go about doing the mod, may not be to remove the markers, but to cover them up. These hash marks are very thin and short, are not lumed, and are not too thick or raised. So why not just cut a slit, the same size of one of the marks, in some mylar. Match some matte black spray paint to the dial's surface paint, by testing it out on some junk dial surfaces. And then just cover each hash mark with the spray paint, using the mylar template.

IMO touching the markers up would be visible, especially under a ARed crystal.

I suppose it would all depend upon how close to the colour of the dial surface area, I could get. But one way or another, those hash marks have to go ...

Wouldnt you still get a contrast given your going over another paint even if the colour matched, that slight raise would catch the light, wouldnt it?
