Building myself a 3646 - case re-working stage (image heavy)

Stage 1: Case re-working...re-shaped the pillow case edges, soldered the lugs and crown tube area.

Stage 2: Will be to convert the spring bar between the lugs to a fixed bar. I'll add some images when this work is completed but I cant start this part yet until the Donerix strap arrives.... so Donerix, if you are reading...get a move on...

Below: Soldered the lugs and re-shaped the edges ...time to solder the crown tube area

Below: The spring bar has to go, this will be replaced by a fixed bar.

Below: Next the crown thread area needs to be solder filled

Below: The join is still visable... I could make it invisible but I think a tiny amount of re-work should be seen...

Below: Crown in place and it has to be a flush fit all round.

Below: The underside...now if I had a strap I would be wearing this with or without a movement...because I just love the shape.

Technical question: For welding on stainless, what method are you using and what type of solder?

Great looking project. Can't wait to see the final result. On the solder question Cortebert will answer the question but in general I believe the original used silver solder.

I believe argon welding/soldering is being used. But please correct me if I am wrong though.

which case was the start of your project ? i have had issues with a certain case and its lack of good case back threads...
