Weird coating on ring

Bought this Tiffany ring from a site along with other things and this is the only one that came out bad. There is a weird coating on it. It's supposed to look like sterling silver. As you can see the floral pattern is not affected, just the rest of the front.The inside and the sides of the ring look fine, its just the front. Here are pics:

I suppose it is maybe rhodanized... ask your local jeweller to redo it.

Or you polish it off.

@Katerchen

What exactly do they do to get rid of it? Do I need some sort of chemical to polish it off? I tried scratching it off with a toothbrush and nail polish remover and nothing came off.

@Kenberg

Do you have Mother Nature Tiffany ring by any chance? I'm looking for another one that's why.

damnit... somethings wrong with the

search-function - makes me loose threads that i replied to??? :thumbdown:

@Mimi

try simple polishing-cloth you can get at your jeweler!

no special chemical (separately) needed - these cloths are saturated(dry)

with some polishing-chemicals - most jewelers where i am located (germany)

give them away "for free"...

I wouldnt try something too aggressive first.

Careful here... I bought some ultra cheap cufflinks from iOffer (just needed some for one time use, cheap) and I started to give them a polish... they looked better for a second (I suppose I polished through the Rhodium into the .925 or something) but just as fast as they stated to look better, the brass started to show through!

Big mistake.

So, my friends, tread lightly ;)
