FxrAndy Posted June 9, 2010 Report Posted June 9, 2010 If a dial (for a 1680) has the feet at 30 and 58 mins, says singer and has the small round machined recess in the back of it what else could it be apart from a gen dial (this is not a trick question)
ubiquitous Posted June 9, 2010 Report Posted June 9, 2010 Well, there are many dials out there, that are not genuine, but may very well share those same attributes Do you have a pic?
FxrAndy Posted June 9, 2010 Author Report Posted June 9, 2010 I noticed it last night on my 1680 dial but i never took a picture of the back, it came in and MBW that i got from Narkortheblue This is the front (remember i have relumed this) I am assuming that this is not a gen dial right now but there is some evidence maybe it is a redial, i duno
ubiquitous Posted June 9, 2010 Report Posted June 9, 2010 Well, there are certainly 'replica' Singer dials; replica in the sense that yes, even the plates and stampings are non-genuine. I'll take a pic tonight of a replica Singer dial plate. If I have an MBW, I will snap a pic of that one as well (those have a very obvious tell, as the Singer stamp is nothing like the real thing)
FxrAndy Posted June 9, 2010 Author Report Posted June 9, 2010 Ah that makes sence then, if they put the dial feet in the right location then that will be why
ubiquitous Posted June 9, 2010 Report Posted June 9, 2010 Okay... Found an old MBW dial in my archived pics (this is a REALLY old pic; please don't pay mind to the quality): And here's gen: Not the best pics, but I'll take more later this afternoon... The interesting thing about gen dials is the finish on the back side of the plate. Usually a funky patina going on...
ubiquitous Posted June 9, 2010 Report Posted June 9, 2010 And to add... Another Singer dial (this time a gen Planet Ocean dial). Note the Singer logo...
FxrAndy Posted June 9, 2010 Author Report Posted June 9, 2010 Thanks Ubi then mine is the same as you MBW, thanks, i thought i got very lucky then
ubiquitous Posted June 9, 2010 Report Posted June 9, 2010 Sorry, buddy Yeah... I suspect the dials in the MBWs are also available for the 15xx movements as well. If you look at my MBW pic above, you'll notice that the dial feet (removed) are in the right positions for a gen movement...
ubiquitous Posted June 11, 2010 Report Posted June 11, 2010 Sorry for the late reply... Here is another example of a rep Singer blank:
HauteHippie Posted June 11, 2010 Report Posted June 11, 2010 Sorry for the late reply... Here is another example of a rep Singer blank: Boy, that one looks believable.
highoeyazmuhudee Posted June 11, 2010 Report Posted June 11, 2010 the 1665 dial that came in my sea dweller from MBK has singer engraved in the back and the circular depression. and i know yuki dials have the correct feet placement and even singer engravings
nakortheblue Posted June 11, 2010 Report Posted June 11, 2010 Just to confirm, I got the watch direct from ETZ.
FxrAndy Posted June 11, 2010 Author Report Posted June 11, 2010 That confirms it then, i was just a bit shocked when i flipped it over and notice the singer.
