triplehd Posted March 8, 2011 Report Posted March 8, 2011 Got around fixing a 42mm SuperOcean. Some details: - Case was originally from a rep Colt GMT. When cleaning the dial, the dial print was getting removed. Therefore, no longer of use. - Dial is gen. Scored this one brand new off of ebay. (Dial & Hand set). - Couldn't for some reason, get the gen hands to fit a 2824 movement. Therefore, resorted to a high beat asian movement w/spare set of SFSO hands. - Crystal is still a work in progress - needs Chief's A/R treatment. Overall, so far, pleased with the watch. Quick pics.

By-Tor Posted March 8, 2011 Report Posted March 8, 2011 Very nice. But I don't think that's actually called "Steelfish" at all. That older model is just "Breitling Superocean".
triplehd Posted March 8, 2011 Author Report Posted March 8, 2011 Thanks BT. Updated with the correct model name.
vafarmer70 Posted March 8, 2011 Report Posted March 8, 2011 The Steelfish was originally 42mm. In 2006, the 42mm version was dropped and replaced by 44mm version. The name was also changed to Steelfish X plus. The 42mm and 44mm versions looks pretty much the same. The 42mm had a depth rating of 1500M vs 2000M for 44mm version. In 2007, the "X plus" was dropped from the name is now known simply as the SuperOcean Steelfish. Very nice BTW
By-Tor Posted March 8, 2011 Report Posted March 8, 2011 The Steelfish was originally 42mm. Yes. But it's completely different model. This one is just "SuperOcean". This article explains the Fish (42mm and 44mm throughly). LINK.
vafarmer70 Posted March 8, 2011 Report Posted March 8, 2011 Yes. But it's completely different model. This one is just "SuperOcean". Agreed.

Tom Hawkes Posted March 10, 2011 Report Posted March 10, 2011 Also if this is the case of a Colt GMT it's not 42 mm.. At least if the rep was accurate.
jerkstore Posted December 15, 2013 Report Posted December 15, 2013 I've got the same dial, and I want to make a similar franken. Because it's from a 42mm watch, I want to make sure I get the right base... What should I use? I tried to PM you triple, but I think your inbox is full.
