Pentax1 Posted May 1, 2011 Author Report Posted May 1, 2011 Orion Sounds Correct what you are Suggesting will try it first with Aluminum I think that best result will be achieved by your suggestion make a mold keep enough on the Mold for Machine finishing and Final Hand Polishing I will keep you posted with the Final Result
Pentax1 Posted May 1, 2011 Author Report Posted May 1, 2011 One Other Problem that I have is the Case back , does anybody know what size Threading is used meaning which Tool will make the Threading correct or Any Threading Design that can be used as this surely can not be molded
chefcook Posted May 1, 2011 Report Posted May 1, 2011 ... I believe the gen would just be cut from a solid piece. ... The gens are stamped (!) and then machined.
Orion1632 Posted May 1, 2011 Report Posted May 1, 2011 The gens are stamped (!) and then machined. Stamped from sheet is still "from solid" I.e. Not cast/forged
zenpang Posted July 24, 2011 Report Posted July 24, 2011 any progress report on this project? It's fascinating!
chefcook Posted July 24, 2011 Report Posted July 24, 2011 Stamped from sheet is still "from solid" I.e. Not cast/forged Stamping or machining something has serious influence on the surface structure and the materials's capabilities, e.g. hardness... A case machined or casted from 18 gold without any compacting of the case will most probably be too soft for anything.
