The rest of the year I prefer harder liquor, mainly rum. I live in Nicaragua and the Gran Reserva (7 years) from Flor de Cana is a great and affordable solution, but Zacapa from Guatemala 23 years) is the BEST 1

I tried some JW Blue Label recently and enjoyed the aroma, but there was this overpowering smokiness that just killed the whole experience for me. Not a fan of blends, I much prefer single malts. This one looks great

The 18 year Highland Park has a bit of smoke in the aftertaste, but as far as I can tell that is completely gone in the 30 year. It tastes like a completely different whisky. Maybe there's a very small hint of smoke, but the primary flavor for me is caramel. Along those lines, there is a Bourbon (unpeated) that drinks like a Scotch and has a very buttery toffee flavor as well: Parker's 27 Year Old Heritage Collection. I think you'd like it a lot. It's pretty amazing. That said, I myself am a fan of peaty whisky. Then again, I guess I like almost all single malt whisky. But Lagavulin is one of my favorites. The HP 30 is just in a different class though. It's something very special.
Bike Mike Posted October 30, 2011 Report Posted October 30, 2011 Typically I am a vodka drinker...Polish Potato Vodka. Lately I have gotten back into Tequilas. Enjoyed a glass of this the other night. Phenomenal! It just evaporates off your tongue.
