Glues that are isocyanate give off a gas that bonds to organic matter immediately so if you have a finger print on your dial then the gas will bond to that and make it permanent. It is used by law enforcement to get finger prints off material that would normally be difficult to take a print off. Even if your crystal was perfectly clean if the glue had not fully cured and you refitted it then the gas would not be able to escape and would then collect under the crystal and any other finger prints there maybe for it to bond to.
