stealthy Posted July 21, 2011 Report Posted July 21, 2011 (edited) Ok. Omega Speedy has been my holy grail. I found the info here that watcheden has the decent quartz speedy.(Best subdial spacing, and reasonable price) So I contacted watcheden and they confirmed me that item number 18479 - (the exact watch that was posted here as best speedy) is in stock now. I ordered and paid my bill. Bad news. They now tell me that the factory changed the subdial as included picture. As you can see, they switched subdial printings. 24 hour subdial... Well subdial spacing is still ok, but 24 hour subdial? What shall I do? 1. Just receive the watch and have my local watchsmith to re-do the dial printing. 2. Cancel the order. Thanks! Robaer Posted July 21, 2011 Report Posted July 21, 2011 If I was in a hurry to get a speedmaster I would just take this one and wear it just like it is. It still looks awesome and I don't think it's possible to change the printing of the subdail with good results. Or you could cancel the order and try and find a used one here on the forum.
strattakan Posted July 21, 2011 Report Posted July 21, 2011 Well, If its me I will don´t care much about the subdial, after all the rep is quartz to start... For this price i´ll get it and use as is. Hmmm probably will do it soon, lol. Anyway, looks good to me as a reasonable price. Change the dial probably will f**k it and later you will put in the watchbox and never use again.
Robaer Posted July 24, 2011 Report Posted July 24, 2011 I've just been in contact with Watcheden and it seems that this "update" is permanent. The factory is going with this design from now on. Really unnecessary on such a nice rep, but that how it often is in rep world.
Tracyl Posted July 28, 2011 Report Posted July 28, 2011 I'd return it and get a hand wind. The movement in those are the ST1902 seagull and is a very nice movement. You can look them up on CousinsUK and they sell for around $138 for just the movement. They are rock solid too. However, the dial spacing you have to give up. So if you don't mind that, then go with the manual wind.
stealthy Posted July 30, 2011 Author Report Posted July 30, 2011 Thank you for kind advise.. Well I changed my order to item number 17642 - the automatic one. And finally I got the watch from watch. But.... the movement is real crappy one. It is very much unreliable. I will send it back to watcheden and just go for a quartz one with wrong dial. Thanks.
