kbh
Has anyone tried these inexpensive plating kits. I'm particularly interested in the 18k gold plating kit at $235. I'm wanting to plate a SS case and re-plate a couple of pieces that are starting to show some wear. It looks pretty easy and straightforward from the video but I'm curious as to the finished product quality.
bones
Funny question actually, I was looking at plating kits the other day. I was thinking more along the lines of brass and nickle plating coin edge bezels. Would be very interested to hear if anyone has had any success with these. kbh
I meant to put in a link:Caswell Plating Kits They have kits for brass, nickel, copper and many others. I was also thinking how nice it would be to rhodium plate some DJ bezels like the gen ones, but that rhodium is mighty expensive.
offshore
Don't waste your money! Been there, done that, they just are not powerful enough; and the level of understanding of various metals and treatments needed is beyond a normal persons understanding. You need to know EXACTLY what base metal you are working with or you experience major failure. I defy anyone to know EXACTLY what base metal is being used in any case. The quality of finish is also very dependent on how good a prep job is done. Any minor imperfection will be shown X 1000%. I believe immersion plating is the only real answer. This pen plating is just hobbyist stuff, with poor results at best. Offshore

kbh
Thanks for the replies. Sounds like I might be better off having it done professionally.
