ChiSSide Posted January 28, 2012 Report Share Posted January 28, 2012 Hi, I have one question that I'm hoping someone can help me with. I recently purchased a rep Hublot Ayrton Senna from Trusty. I am new to this so unsure as to the internal workings. Looking for help/clarification. The self winding weight, visible through the back crystal. Is it supposed to rotate in both directions? Does it wind the watch when rotating in either direction? I am new, please be nice... The reason I ask is because often the weight will spin counterclockwise very rapidly all by itself when the watch is horizontal either upside down or right-side up. I understand movement while on my wrist makes the weight rotate thus winding the watch, but why would it move on it's own and why so rapidly. My fear is that it is unwinding itself when doing this and thus loosing power. Can someone please help me understand? Much appreciated!!! Perhaps it might be better if you can explain more detail of what is happening. FxrAndy Posted January 28, 2012 Report Share Posted January 28, 2012 The 7750 does only wind in one direction, correct, there are times that the rotor can spin disturbuingly fast in the freewheeling direction, but normaly when you are wearing it, if the rotor spins when it is not being worn, ie it has been set down and then it suddenly starts to rotate then i would say that both of the two ratchet clicks are not engaging and the power from the main spring is unwinding via the rotor. But if you are just feeling it spin on your wrist and the watch is not stopping then i would say it is just the old 7750 rotor spin. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Generally when I notice this rapid counterclockwise winding the watch is on my wrist. I can feel it occurring. It's always when my wrist is in a horizontal position so the watch is sitting flat either right side up or upside down. When positioned on it's side this does not occur. Frequently when I feel this occurring I have taken the watch off and held it horizontal while looking at the rotor from underneath. It spins rapidly counterclockwise for a moment then stops mysteriously. Interestingly when I remove the watch when wound and place it on it's side for an evening it is still keeping the correct time the next morning when i pick it up. Though throughout the course of the day after multiple instances of this rapid counterclockwise roter movement I notice the watch is a little behind. I've been manually winding it in these instances in an effort at keeping it accurate while I wear it. Can you please explain why the rotor would spin fast in the freewheeling direction? What causes this? I'm assuming that if the winding occurs only when the rotor is moving clockwise that counterclockwise is the freewheeling direction? I can not honestly say I have seen this counterclockwise rapid rotation initiate all on it's own when the watch was sitting flat on my desk for instance but what I am observing when this occurs on my wrist however makes me think that it may be the main spring unwinding when it is on my wrist. If that is the case what is my recourse? I purchased this from Trusty not a week ago. If I am just overreacting and this is nothing then I certainly do not want to go back to Andrew to complain as he has been great to work with so far (sans a screw that fell of the bezel day 1, which he is sending me replacement screws for) Thank you everyone here! FxrAndy Posted January 29, 2012 Report Share Posted January 29, 2012 I honestly cant say that you have a problem from the description, and i cant say that sending it back to china would be the best thing either as it may just be the rotor free wheeling. Based on your description it seems normal for a unidirectional winding automatic. It is common for a watch's time keeping to vary between wearing it and being on a table. ChiSSide Posted January 29, 2012 Author Report Share Posted January 29, 2012 I'm in Chicago. Yes, this is my first 7750. I am new to this hobby in general though rapidly becoming obsessed. Having only had this piece a couple weeks I'm not certain what the average amount of time it seems to loose during the day while worn is. Lets say 4 min. I may be being overly critical. Though I am curious and would like a technical explanation as to what is occurring when the rotor spins rapidly in this counterclockwise motion while worn. If it is not the mainspring transferring energy out of the watch what causes it? I find this fascinating. Thinking of picking up a cheap movement to dissect to see what I can learn. Wore it about the house for the entire day yesterday and it's keeping time perfectly. I'm looking forward to receiving the replacement screw that fell off the bezel so I can get it out of the house.
