replica & fantasy watches in movies

Last night I saw the "Drive" movie and was curious to know which wrist watch did Ryan wear.

I did some digging and was AMAZED to find out that this was a Patek fantasy rep. Don't believe me???

See the link for GQ magazine:

"With the nature of the movie - Ryan is very active and there's a lot of stunts, a lot of blood. You can't use the real watch or you're going to break it," explains Blount. "Which would just be a shame. So we used five or six replicas."

Who knew?

There is a company that deals in movie props which sold off the five remaining watches from the film (Gosling kept one) for $1,200 a piece. I contacted the company about purchasing a watch but they couldn't actually tell me any details about the watch. As they were selling the watch strictly based on the collectability of it being in the film they didn't want to take the time to verify if it was quartz, automatic, what was inside of it, etc...

I believe the producers of Minority Report got in a bit of trouble for rebranding an Omega X-33 as 'Bvlgari' without permission. In the first Iron Man movie, Robert Downey Jr can be seen wearing a Hublot Big Bang when he tries to phone for help during the convoy ambush at the start, and when he decides to gatecrash the benefit party, he checks out a Bvlgari (not sure of the model) which is carefully set at 10:10 with all complications at the halfway points on their scales. Amusingly, despite the very noticeable ticking sound, there is no movement of the second hand ;) I looked on WatchEden but couldn't find a rep of it (not that I'd actually wear one) but it was a nice looking watch, as was the Drive Patek :good::drinks:
