ROLEX GMT MOVEMENT EXPERTS NEEDED

Hey Guys:

This started over a year ago when I acquired a gen. F series Exp.II case set.

It was meant to be cleaned up/polished and sold for a bit of a profit but I've got it in my head to build an Exp.II gen myself.

Since then, I've managed to source and acquire everything needed for this build........except the mvt.

It seems the Cal.3185 is a bit more difficult to find than I'd thought it to be. (and it seems it doesn't offer the quick-set date function)

So now it's down to making a choice...continue searching for a Cal.3185 or go with a Cal.3175

My questions are these:

Are the 3185 and 3175 the same size ??

Are they same regarding dial feet mounting position??

Will the 3175 accept the 3185 hand set??

Is the 3175 as good and reliable as the reviews indicate the 3185 to be??

Would the 3175 be an acceptable option for an Exp.II ??

While it may have made more sense (and possibly been a bit cheaper) to simply go buy a good preowned 16570, it wouldn't have been near as much fun

and it's also easier for me to absorb the cost little by little as opposed to dropping the 4100.00 + these run on the market.

Many can say they own a gen of this or that and many can say they have a Franken of this or that.

But how many can say (or know of anyone that can) that they build their gen basically from the ground up.

I just thought it would be cool to be able to say I put this together myself.

All knowledge/information/opinions are very much welcome here.
