Submariner broken?

I get the feeling that this is your first mechanical watch. Dont worry, people come in all the time and ask questions as a complete first-timer.

Turn the crown counter-clockwise to unscrew it from it's waterproofing tube.

When it is fully unscrewed, it is in the winding position. turn it slowly clockwise to wind the watch. Counter-clockwise will do nothing.

Gently pull the crown outwards from the watch body to it's second position and turn the crown to quick-set the date wheel.

Pull the crown out again to it's third position and the hands (the time) will adjust.

Push the crown inwards towards the watch body now, and while pressing inwards turn the crown counter-clockwise until you feel a small CLICK .. this indicates that the screw threads inside the crown and the watch body are aligned.

Now, while still pressing inwards, turn the crown clockwise and it will thread onto the watch body and become attached/watertight.

If you do not align the crown's screw threads and the watch body's screw threads before tightening it down, you risk cross-threading the assembly and no one wants to do that.
