mellons
I am sure most of us here have a pita with post costs- no matter what size the package is the cost for registered mail is around $10 etc....for EU UPS and FEDEX incurs import duty etc. however, this one really puts it all in perspective: I purchased a set of spring bars from a member in Southern Australia: he posted bars in a letter (normal post) on last Friday (3rd aug). The bars arrived here in Ireland today Tuesday 7th August. And it was a public holiday yesterday. 10,311 miles in 3 working days (- 1 day holiday)- that is impressive. woof*
Crazy isn't it? No rhyme or reason to it. I had a package from josh in in China at my doorstep in Dallas in three days once.
PeteM
Its funny you say that mate... Don used to send his watches standard from US to me..... its still holds the record for speed to me in UK.... 3 days !! But given prices now ... its getting harder to give a good price on some deals if you want Registered from UK now... I sold a Rolex Pearl.... just the Pearl now.... I went to PO to get postage to Germany.... It was £10 ($15) for registered..... it was still a fiver to send standard !! Thats almost the same price as sending a watch with all the packaging !! redwatch
I used FedEx a few weeks ago to ship two packages. One went to Santa Ana (which is about 30 minutes away from me) and the other one went to somewhere in Florida. They were both the exact same size and weight. Both were sent using FedEx ground. The package to Florida with insurance cost me $16.50. The package to Santa Ana...... $21.00????? The guy at the FedEx store was more confused about it than I was. He re-entered it three times before giving up and say that he was sorry, but there was no explanation and nothing he could do.
