Second hand has been relumed. Seller says it is from Canadian Navy. Take that for what it is. Without provenance no way to prove a military history and thus the caseback is engraved. Nice 9401 though. The relumed second hand and the engraving on the back (without provenance) will hurt value in the eyes of many collectors. Add on top the fact that he's had to drastically reduce the price and you get the idea of its true value. I considered making an offer prior to trading my 16700 for a 16750.

Looks pretty darn nice to me, I would definitely relume that green second hand to match everything else. maybe a little research into the numbers on the back, what do they mean? maybe this is and issue number from the Canadian navy. Shoot him and offer, worst that he can do is refuse.

Rumour has it that the Canadian Military stamps a serial number into the caseback. There have been a few examples pop up over the years. Problem is that there is no concrete way to validate the claim thus canadian military subs are not viewed with any true collectable military provenance and are viewed as just a standard 9401 in the eyes of many collectors. That is the reason he was having a hard time selling it at the higher price point (IIRC, he started the auction at $3900 then reduced it to $3399) before settling on the $2900 it currently sits at.
